High school reunion and Facebook.

I have a High School reunion coming up. (I won't say what year). If I knew you in HS, I accepted their Facebook friend request.

One FB friend from HS; I dated briefly. She French-kissed me, not the other way around. I was hurt when she picked another guy. We became FB "friends" a few years ago. Until recently, I hoped she would make it to the reunion. She lost her husband a few years ago, and so my lust for her returned. However, she recently posted, "RIP Charlie Kirk." I don't condone political violence, but I disagree with what Charlie Kirk stood for. I defriended her and told her why. A few years ago, I became FB friends with a cheerleader. In HS, she wouldn't have given me the time of day, but she was a classic cheerleader, i.e., she was hot.

However, a few years back, she posted a racist comment about Obama, so I defriended her and told her why. It felt so empowering.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

No one I know makes that sort of use of FB.

Wait, come to think of it, my sister probably does, but she's a decade older than me and into the befriend/defriend arms race in general. I've never looked.

I personally wouldn’t unfriend a FB friend over there beliefs or post on there. There’s such a thing as Unfollow button so you don’t see there content if it’s something that you don’t want to see. Just a thought as an alternative.

If it was just a difference in religious or political beliefs (they're Christian and I am pagan or they are Conservative and I am NDP), sure. I have long had friends, even my wife, that I don't share those kinds of beliefs with. But racism (as in one example in the opening post) or hatred against LGBTQ+ or something? Unfriend. I don't want to be associated with shit like that.

That said, hasn't been an issue for me in a long time. I dumped FB and related a long time ago.

And I first introduced Kate as a university student whose first time kind of sets the stage for her new story.

As I see it, the world would be a better place without Facebook and without about half the idiots I graduated from high school with.

Except for the above person, my public HS didn't have many idiots. We had one of the best math teams (yes, math) in the state.

For many of the reasons you stated, Hasabrain, that's why I never signed up for Facebook. I don't always agree politically with my real friends, but I know where they stand on things, and we're still friends. I've heard too many stories about old acquaintances meeting on FB and then finding out one or the other has views of life the other wants nothing to do with.
