as it stands you can write poems in any category you wish, as long as they have an erotic or love theme to them - that said, they still will be placed under love poems - i think, if we're being honest here, the majority of the people read to be aroused and are looking for stories - separating the two allows them to get what they want as well as for people like you to easily find poems if that is what you prefer. seriously, do we really want to double the front page chapter list by adding poem to the end of each category as well?

Poetry is the only category in which we remove the minimum length requirement. Merging the lot with every other category, would make that impossible.

It seems though when you write erotic poems they say it doesn't fit in the love poems category. Then you write a love poem and they say not enough erotica.

The title, "Love Poems" began that way, but has has grown to include all sorts. It's a liquorice category.
A poem's "quality" can rely on many things. Yes, sometimes it does depend on the moderator who happens to read that piece being able to recognise it as a finely crafted poem. But it also relies on it being just that. As authors, we believe that most, if not all, of what we do is fine showcase stuff. But the crowds will usually tell us differently, particularly when it is submitted to a place where the pieces must meet certain qualities and merits to pass muster. That's the price of entering somebody else's arena, rather than creating our own.
An author may write a poem that is screamingly funny and have it passed, but it might also be rejected for being utterly ridiculous. It all depends on how the piece comes across. I have one that I thought was utterly ridiculous, but I sent it in anyway. I got more messages over how erotic people thought that was than any other poem I have written.
Likewise, a serious piece can seem dark, ugly and not erotic at all. A moderator will look for "flavour", the atmosphere of the piece. Much of my poetry is what I glibly term depressing, but it speaks (I hope) of sexual tension, longing and desire. Perhaps it does not belong here. Some of it is raw, powerful and intense from this writer's point of view, or silly and trite, but fun. But at some point, somebody has agreed that it does belong. I tailor what I write for this site, or put it elsewhere (Facebook or Storiesspace.com).
I can "knock out poetry easily", because it is a natural way for me to write. But it takes energy, intensity, emotion and focus to do it. If a reader is faced with a two-sentence poem, it had better be ground-breaking stuff to pass muster. I don't doubt that most people, given enough time and energy, could do such a thing, but it is highly unlikely.
If you want to question a moderator's decision, then take it up with them. Or, use the Poetry Corner as directed, and save the publication for your more expanded work that people can savour and mull over. Quality is not always the overriding factor on quantity. The two need to go hand-in-hand, usually.

I do it for fun as well. Some rhyme, some don't. As I said, if you have issue with a moderator's decision, ask them about it, or send a message to one you trust and talk it over, if you think it depends who you get.

I should mention that Lush Stories Moderators are VERY carefully vetted before being asked to contribute. Most, (but not all) are extremely accomplished writers. ALL have demonstrated an innate understanding of the ethos of the site and it's operation. An ESSENTIAL attribute for all moderators is an ability to communicate kindly, helpfully and diplomatically with submitting writers. MANY submissions are discussed and debated upon the Mods Forum section of the site. Opinions are offered and indeed sought.
Submitting writers are valued most highly, and moderators understand that it is the submissions of writers that is the life blood of the site.
Without writers, we have no site.
That said, experienced moderators KNOW what works and what doesn't. A moderator will NOT post questionable work for public scrutiny for TWO reasons. ONE, the work, for whatever reason, may not satisfy our quality standards. TWO, we need to be EXTREMELY protective of our writers. (Lush, in general, is a very polite, supportive and friendly site BUT like all internet sites, not every member is respectful and mannerly...) Experience teaches Lush Moderators what will and will not 'work' upon site. We will NOT post work that we feel will encourage hurtful and negative comment by the wider readership.
What we will do is to gently explain WHY a particular piece isn't suitable for public posting and offer advice as to how it might be improved. In this way, Lush Stories avoids a lot of the venality, trolling and general nastiness that is so common on other less-well policed sites.
Lush Moderators work for both the site, our writers (and of course our readers.) In my opinion, this is the same thing. We take the responsibility VERY seriously.
(As I stated, most Lush Mods are themselves writers who came here just as you and I did... They KNOW what it's like to submit a piece. They KNOW how precious the work is to those who write it, they KNOW how much energy and emotion and indeed BRAVERY it takes for a writer to 'go public', as it were...)

That may be the case, DM, but during the time that I was mod, poems that were outrightly weren't allowed. This was for various reasons which are not what this thread is about, but the biggest reason, as I recall, was so that people had the choice whether or not to read material. There is a category specifically for that.
It may be that the current mods didn't think my questioning worth answering, or overlooked it, but I would like an answer to that question regarding the poetry focus.
Lush did publish certain things at one time, but with growth and changing needs, other things were or were not allowed, and are constantly under review, even now.
This issue is very black and white to me. Either it is allowed or it isn't, whatever the skill of the author. That's all I want to know.

2. Lush has standards...either your poems meet those standards or they don't. There's neither hypocrisy nor controversy/conspiracy there.
3. If your submissions are rejected (especially after multiple times) there are reasons. Reasons you're made aware of and often in great detail by the moderator(s) who approves/rejects your work, which brings me to my next point...

This is how the process works. It's how it's always worked. That's why hundreds of stories/poems can be published on a monthly basis. Insinuating otherwise is just an insult to the people who volunteer their time to make what you do happen as easily and as smoothly as possible. Do you think story moderators take pleasure in rejecting work and having to read it several times until it passes muster? No...but there is always someone willing to do exactly that. You do yourself a disservice by blaming those who are only here to help.
2. Lush has standards...either your poems meet those standards or they don't. There's neither hypocrisy nor controversy/conspiracy there.
