I posted on another thread recently pointing out that the Burmese Than-bauk is a poetic form that is shorter than the Japanese Haiku. I suggested that maybe we should have a thread on it to see what people come up with, then I thought: why don't I start it?
So here it is!
The Than-Bauk is usually a witty saying or epigram. Like the Haiku it has three line, however, each line has four syllables. Also, unlike a Haiku, the Than-Bauk has a climbing rhyme: the rhyme is on the fourth syllable of the first line, the third syllable of the second line, and the second syllable of the third line. They are therefore a lot more structured than a Haiku.
Here's a couple of examples I wrote:
Start by flirting,
Then touching lips,
Ending in bed.
Kiss me, lover,
All over, please,
Covering me.
