The stereotype is that if you grew up white in the South then you must be racist. The problem with stereotypes is that they try to compress the entirety of a particular group into a definition that covers the majority of the members. In my experience, racism in the South was based on two factors: how rich or poor you were growing up, and how your parents viewed the world. Me, I grew up poor in a single parent household. My mother never expressed any opinion at all about skin color, and most of my friends were black. As a result, I learned to judge people by their behavior instead of pre-judging them just because of their ethnicity. Besides, I might have grown up "white" but I've got as much Cherokee in me as I do caucasian. Which am I supposed to identify with? I think, in the end, it's a choice you make. You either rise above the stupidity or you succumb to it. When you rise up, you open your eyes and see that people are just people, all of us different, with only very broad categories able to identify us. A beautiful woman is a beautiful woman, period. Whether she's of African descent, Asian, Indian, European, chubby, skinny, short, tall, pale, tanned, big tittied, flat chested, tattooed, scarred, unblemished, freckled, or anything else, beauty truly is in the eyes of the beholder.
