With June being "Pride Month", we decided it would be good timing to run a LGBTQ themed competition.
Details:
Pride Competition
On June 27, 1970, Chicago Gay Liberation organized the first gay pride parade, or rather, march. June was chosen to commemorate the Stonewall Riots of 1969. In the following years, many major cities followed suit.
Eventually, the parades become less of a remembrance and more of a celebration of the LGBTQ community, and the entire month of June became known as "Pride Month".
Competition Theme
The theme of this contest is based on "Pride", and we're looking for stories that feature Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer themes.
What does "Pride" mean to you? What kind of stories do you envision? Is it a chance to come out of the closet and celebrate? Are you a woman trapped in a man's body? Is it a first encounter by a curious man or woman with someone of the same sex? Is it overcoming the struggles of being 'different' - the fight to be accepted?
Be out, be loud, be queer, be proud and celebrate Pride!
Needless to say, this competition is open to writers of all sexual persuasions!
The word limit for this competition is 5,000 words.
Winner: $150
Second Place: $100
Third Place: $50
