Stories that have been edited, are removed from circulation, until they've been verified again by a Moderator.

This double handling is very time consuming for our Moderators who give up their time freely, so please make sure your work is finished and you're happy with it before submitting.

If it really needs to be changed down the track, please make it the last change.

In future we're programming into the site a one edit allowed per story rule to combat this problem.

Thank you.

Out of curiousity, if other people can embellish a story that has been read and approved, are those additions checked first, as though the story had been adited, or are they published right away?
Story embellishments happen so few and far between, I can honestly say I have no idea! Good question.

I'll ask Gav. Logically it will remain where it is because the original story is untouched.
A note for those that like to waste Moderator's time - editing your story does NOT get it back onto the front of the site, it goes back to where it always was in the system.

There is no way to game the system and get your story to appear again on the front of the site.
Nicola, I have no problems with any of that except, while it's VERY possible I overlooked it, I don't believe there's a warning about any of this. (note: I'm one of the world's worst about futzing with a new posts, but even I learned better.)

This is the "warning"

You are right, I think once someone clicks "Edit story", they should have a box pop up or a reminder on that edit page, that this will pull the story off site until it is verified again. Good idea.
Nicola, Just one thing I wanted clarified and that is, when you edit a story, do you lose or keep all your comments, views and votes?

I have an entry in the earth day competition and a couple of days later, I noticed a typo, but I am afraid to edit it just in case I lose them all. I am quite happy to leave it as it is (In one way, it is rather amusing. What should be "my breasts" is now "my beast") until the competition is over, but would also be happy if I could correct it.

Nope, your comments and votes will remain the same.
Thanks beautiful lady, I will go and edit it now.
I have edited a couple of stories after they have posted...I often don't spot mistakes myself, my mind sort of automatically corrects them as I know what I wanted to say...so, I usually have to wait for them to be pointed out...
I always wait till the story passes the front page...
I appreciate that the mods have to read the story again, and I really hate to do it...I recall there was mention on another forum post about some software change that would allow the mods to spot the changes...is that happening??? I really do appreciate that being a mod is basically a thankless job, and I do hate sending them back, but I can be a perfectionist, as most of the authors I know are...is that software change going to happen? I would feel better sending a story back because one word is wrong knowing the mod does not have to re-read the whole thing...

The mods aren't going to waste their time when there are 20 stories to verify to fix up your one spelling mistake. We love your stories, but we dont have that kind of time, would love to do it if you and father time are tight and he can spare me a few hours in each day...
Yes Alan, there are systems in place now to highlight any changes so they don't have to be totally re-read, but it's still time consuming.

I recommend reading your stories several times, put them through our spellchecker, then read them again. Then again. Then submit.

Nicola...believe me, I do...but, for instance...there are two errors still in "Sexual Healing"...one is the word "flower" instead of "flowers"...another is the word "can" instead of "came"...neither of which would get picked up by spell-check, since they are both words...
I guess the story will just have to stay that way...hey, it's doing fine the way it is...mistakes and all...
And Necho...thanks for the compliment...always appreciated...

I do, I do...but, like I say..my mind sort of corrects the errors in my head, because I know what it is I wanted to say...
Just an interesting side note...the person who caught the "can" instead of "came" error is member Scooter...which is funny, because he has been known to have spelling errors in his titles...
He's a fun guy...but I'm not sure if Lush is ready for him...
And Nicola, don't make me read my own stories again and again...bad enough I had to read "Sexual Healing" over again...cried each time, and judging by the notes and comments, I think everyone else did too...

I'm a very novice writer. I've written a sequel to my first and have sent it to two more experienced writers whom I've asked to do a review and corrections. Not all of us are experienced. After my first story, which I've edited a couple times, I run my word processor spell AND grammar check. Hopefully my reviewers will catch anything else that needs correcting.

I agree. On a web site, where stories are monitored and reviewed, this is a very necessary thing.

Thanks.....

I find that watching this video is required by myself - at certain special times...in order to keep my own sanity.

The same GQP demanding we move on from January 6th, 2021 is still doing audits of the November 3rd, 2020 election.

That is the reason why it helps to have someone else proof-read what you have written. The person proof-reading isn't yet familiar with the text, doesn't know what the author wanted to say, but didn't say clearly, and errors in spelling and grammar often seem to leap out at him or her. I've done plenty of it for other people, so I know what it's like, but have to leave my own writing for a while before being able to proof-read it and catch my mistakes. So, try leaving your stories for a day or two after writing them, then proof-read them, rather than submitting them for the Mods right away, if that's what you usually do.

That is a good idea, and might do me good...but I don't always do what might do me good...
I have a bad habit of posting my stories without even reading them...as soon as I type the last word and put the date, I post them on another site where they post immediately but have a 24 hour editing period. Then I read them and correct anything I or others may find...it's usually not much, I consider myself fairly careful...I think my mistake is that I usually submit them to Lush almost immediately after I post on the other site...that is something I should change...
I have to admit I get anxious to submit them...and move on to the next story...
But your advice is good...I just have to follow it...hmmm....
But posting on the other site with the editing period first is a good thing because otherwise I might not find someone who wants to read my stories right away.

Yes, it will do you good, and it will also ease up the load on the story Moderators here. You know how it works here, so stop being precious, be respectful of the Mods here, and also of your readers, and get a grip. You're posting erotica, you're not submitting the newest scientific ground-breaking research paper that is headed to getting a Nobel prize. Wait it out, reread your story and do your own proof-reading and editing. The world isn't going to stop turning because your story is going to be posted 24-48 hours later, for crying out loud.

You bet your ass my advice is good, my writers know my advice is good and their writing is better for it. If as you say you want your stories to appear at their best, it's up to you, it doesn't happen by magic. Just as you go out the door with your shirt tucked in, your pants up, fastened, belt buckled, tie on if need be, or, to quote your own favourite trite saying, whatever, it is up to you, or any other writer, in my opinion.
Gee, thanks Gypsy for putting it all in perspective...but, who says I go out the door with my pants up and my shirt tucked in??? You're making assumptions...and you know what happens then...
Btw...I read the first paragraph of my latest story about six times, if not more...I spend a lot of time on the first paragraph, after that the rest sort of falls into place...anyway, sure as the sun comes up...wouldn't you know, as many times as I read it...it was not until it posted that someone pointed out the repitition of the word "he" in the last sentence...
I will never be able to proofread my own stories...

Well Alan, if you don't go out the door with your pants up and your shirt tucked in, either your mother or the morality squad will be on your case.

As for proof-reading your stories, and avoiding repetition, here is the first paragraph of your latest story.

As I drove over to the new healthcare clinic, I was a bit apprehensive. I truly hate going to doctors. I usually only go to a doctor after I've either broken something or I am bleeding so profusely the blood threatens to change the color of my shirt. In fact, I don't even have a regular doctor. When I had to choose a primary care physician for my HMO, I believe I threw a dart at the page and chose the one it landed next to. I didn't realize until much later that he was in a different state. So, when I headed over to this new medical clinic, I was getting a nervous stomach. This new physician clinic was recommended highly by a neighbor of mine. In fact he pretty much raved about it. I asked him if the doctors were friendly and if I recall he all he could say was yesss!'

The vertical pronoun, "I", appears 13 times, by my count.

Below is my rewording of that paragraph, and "I" appears a mere six times.

On my way to the new healthcare clinic, I was somewhat apprehensive, as I truly hate going to doctors. Unless I’ve broken something or am bleeding so profusely the blood threatens to change the colour of my shirt, you won’t catch me going to a doctor, and in fact, I don’t even have one. When I had to choose a primary care phsician for my HMO, throwing a dart at the page and chosing the name it landed beside seemed to be a reasonable way to go about it. It wasn’t until much later that it came to my attention that the doctor selected this way was in a different state. So, driving to the new clinic, my stomach was in a state of nerves. The new physician clinic had been highly recommended by a neighbor of mine; in fact, he pretty much raved about it. I asked him if the doctors were friendly, and my recollection was that all he could say was ‘yesss!’.

The supplementary "he" in the last sentence was an over-sight on your part. The constant repetition of the first person pronoun "I" was just excessive, unimaginative, and could have been easily remedied, as I have shown.

In fact, I don't even have a regular doctor. When I had to choose a primary care physician for my HMO, I believe I threw a dart at the page and chose the one it landed next to.

The page of what? And what is an HMO? That makes no sense to me at all.
HMO stands for "Health Management Organization" (a system of private health insurance), and "the page" refers to the list of approved doctors under said system, which would make total sense to most Americans, but probably would be too obscure for most people outside the US to know. Whether that's grounds for changing the wording is not for me to say.

Why get so worked up over this? Alan will keep beating this point until it's in small canine-food chunks, and you'll get increasingly angry and self-righteous about your skills as a proofreader and arbiter on good writing (giving him the old "quote and shred" treatment), which I'm sure are indeed formidable.

Alan, I'll be glad to read your stuff if you'd like, though there are FAR more qualified writers and editors on the site.
Hey Gypsy...I'm glad Will agrees that most Americans would have understood perfectly what I was saying...it is hard for me to write otherwise...
My whole series of stories that I've posted originally under the screen name 67Goat may not be fully understood by readers outside the US...they are very American stories. I created the 67Goat screen name on another site because I wanted to write a small series of stories set back in the sixties and I am not old enough. I don't write well in third person, so 67Goat is a 63 year-old married man who has been married over 30 years to the same woman. This allowed me to not only do the two stories I had planned, "A Night To Remember" and "Love And Haight" but also to finish "Sexual Healing" which I started back in October as a third person Exakta66 story...Just the screen name 67Goat may not be understood by most of the world...a "Goat" is a slang term for a Pontiac GTO, an American muscle car of the sixties...the whole Haight-Ashbury thing is very sixties American...but, that was the idea...
I can tell you that the stories did very well over there...67Goat hit the number one spot on the Hottest Author list on the site I started on...with Wayne's (xbob) character Ernest right behind, btw...
As far as the use of the vertical pronoun, I usually only consider how many times I start sentences with it, not the total count...I realize that my writing is not perfect, but I believe it has come a long way in the eleven months I have been doing this...
Thanks for your thoughts though...I really do appreciate constructive criticism...even if it is not always what I want to hear...
Later,
Alan.
