Nicola recently updated the Think Tank rules of conduct in the sticky. I would suggest that, if you're a regular or even an irregular poster in that particular forum, you read these carefully. Thanks, and enjoy:

Recently a few members have overstepped the mark and blatantly disregarded our forum posting rules, particularly concerning being courteous and respecting others.

After several gentle and not so gentle requests to toe the line, they are now on an enforced break from the site.

I've had enough, and so have our Mods.

Nobody wants to visit forums which are littered with personal insults, trolling and general abuse.

Please re-read our guidelines if you need a refresher course. I know The "Think Tank" was set up for more animated discussions, but it's become personal and very nasty in places. I for one don't want to see it and nor do most of our membership I'm sure:

The Lush Forums were created with the intention of providing a comfortable place for people with a common interest to exchange ideas, share information and enjoy each other's company. These forums are maintained in that spirit and members are expected to honor those goals. The basic guide to etiquette is this: be polite, be mature, keep your language clean and respect the opinions of others (even if you disagree).

The administrators will browse the forums from time to time to ensure that the guidelines are being followed. Anyone not following the guidelines may find their posts deleted, and risk being suspended, or even banned, if the problem continues. If you notice any posts that do not adhere to these guidelines, please notify the forum administrator by via the Help >> Contact Us link.

No hate speech.

Any post that insults people based on their race, gender, sex, sexual preference, religion, culture, or country of origin, or threatens them explicitly or implicitly is not allowed and may result in an immediate ban. This includes both fellow forum members and your fellow human beings in general.

No Moderator / Site bashing.

If you have an issue with a particular moderator, the manner in which you've been treated, or the way any aspect of the site is run, please use the Help >> Contact Us link, and your issue will be forwarded to the most relevant person. These matters are best kept out of the public forums, and do nothing to create a harmonious atmosphere we all strive for.

Remember, moderators are here to help you, to keep the site running smoothly and free of pests. They give up their time freely to do so. Please show them the respect they deserve.

Personal disputes

Please do not use these forums for personal disputes, heated debates, flame wars etc. You are expected to treat each other with respect in the forums and take any personal disputes to a private mode of discussion off the forums.

Respect other users

Sometimes people can write something that you may find offensive. Before launching into a public condemnation though, please consider that the person may not have intended to cause offence. It is very easy to misinterpret a post on forums. There is absolutely no need to resort to insults. Respect others even if you disagree with their views.

No trolling

What is a troll? It's a person who posts something which is bound to stir people up and then sits back and watches as dozens of people jump in and start arguing. Sometimes trolls get their friends to join in or post under different names. Generally they will do anything it takes to get attention. If you see a message like this, please try and refrain from replying to it - it may well be deleted anyway.

Keep on topic

Do try and keep to the topic of the thread. If you want to raise a new issue then consider whether a new topic is more appropriate.

this is where i really want to insult you, just to be funny, but realize, at the last minute, that it's a terrible idea.

We can thank Vanessa for this. Please note the lovely lady’s pearls.

I must leave now. Things have popped up and need enthusiastic tending.

Why not get a campfire started to gather around and roast marshmallows while we are at it lol???

I have quoted only a couple of lines from Sprite's post that express my thoughts exactly.

THANK YOU Sprite for expressing my thoughts better than I ever could have. THANK YOU also, Nicole, and all your wonderful moderators for finally cracking down on those few that badly abused the forums. It is about time, no, I take that back, it is way past time, such action was taken. However, better late than never. I quit going to that forum quite some time ago, simply because of the actions of a few people. Why is it always a few that spoil it for everyone else? Now, maybe the rest of us can join in and have some interesting and informative discussions on topics that concern all of us in one way or another.

Hearing that this forum is finally going to be cleaned up has made my day. THANK YOU all for that.

A happy Lush user.
If you're feeling bored during this Covid-19 epidemic I’d like to suggest
you take a peek at a story I collaborated with SueBrasil, a brilliant author.
It's about a mistake in judgment a lady makes concerning a friend, based
on the hurtful words of someone that only thinks of himself. Will that
conniving person succeed in ruining a beautiful friendship, or will she see
through his lies? It's gradually creeping up towards the 30,000 mark
and we’d love any votes or hearing whatever comments you may wish
to make. It is listed in my profile under ‘FAVOURITES’ as Apologize.

This! =d>

I think we all need a refresher course in what is and is not allowed in forums.
Yay!

clappy hands
I’m sure this is a decision that will never be regretted. It is a change that I welcome with open arms and Much gratitude. We are not all the same when it comes to emotions and hurt feelings. I have never hidden the fact that I am soft and sometimes easily hurt. I can’t change that. I am who I am. I am all for joking around or calling someone an ass or a bit of a dick etc. but I think as a civilised society, there is also a moral line we should not cross, and should not tolerate others doing so. I am glad Lush think so too.
I think for the most part these are a sensible set of rules which most people won't construe as transforming the Think Tank into a sterile safe-space.

I believe people can be respected yet still have their views and values questioned and contradicted the fuck out of. So, here's to the last bastion of unsanitized opinion on the forum.

Sometimes I think a thread should be allowed to meander. Little personal asides, for example, can lighten the tone without derailing the conversation.

Looks like we're in for a nasty spell of wether.

Well said. Disagreements of principe and politic can be conducted intelligently and passionately without resorting to inflammatory hyperbole. I feel this will encourage others to contribute when their loathing of the venom spewed by a few otherwise kept them away.
