I've just suspended 2 people for voting down dozens of stories (their voting pattern was picked up by our new filters).

This was one of their responses:

they are for stories about incest.those are sick people.and it causes retardness and birth defects..that's why i voted it down!!!

If you dislike a category of stories that much, hide it in your profile. Do NOT vote down every story you come across in that category.

From here on in, any member caught maliciously voting down stories will be suspended, and if they are repeat offenders, their account will be deleted.
Kudos Nicola!
That’s right, you tell them, Nicola! Ha-Ha!
That's really funny, I have this gif in my image store, very similar:

I agree with this as well...

It's totally unfair when people don't score stories based on merit.

In saying that, I have set to blocked in my account, but recently had two stories appear from friends, which were not in that category, but should have been - which was quite annoying. One of them quite clearly became that early on and I just skimmed it and scored it accordingly. The other didn't become until the very last line, so when I read it, it I felt pretty sickened that I'd been 'duped' into reading it. Had it been in the section, it would have spoiled the 'surprise', so to speak, but it was annoying nonetheless...

I've also seen people vote stories down for personal reasons, with nothing to do with the content of the story or it's merits - so I'm really glad that this will be dealt with....

I love Lush, it's like my second home!!
Going on what Mazza said about stories that are in the wrong category, I dont know if there is a way to suggest to moderation that a category of a story be changed to the proper category.. I'm sure there are other stories that are put in the wrong categories, but I figure this could be a useful feature to be added to the site..

I think most mods already get this. If, for example, I'm editing a 'Group Sex' story but all the participants are women, then that's a 'Lesbian' story.... And I'll move it.

I've never had a single objection.... (We ARE here to Help both the writers and the readers.... And maintain the quality standards of Lush Stories)

With regard to the deliberate practice of marking down stories, it happens because people are reading something they shouldn't be, (in that I'm not a fan of BDSM and won't read those for pleasure, but I'd never mark a story down merely because I don't like the subject....) but some do.... That ISN'T how we play it here. There can also be issues between members where people fall out and a person might 'teach someone a lesson' by marking a story down, I've seen this. Although it hasn't happened to me, I know Story Verifiers who have been marked down by writers they've had to correct/remove stories/admonish simply because the writers felt annoyed at the Mod's decision...

I've HAD stories marked down, but that was because someone genuinely thought they were crap. And that's fine!!!

The new facility will enable the Senior Mods to monitor bad behaviour. Because we'd NEVER stand for bad behaviour on Lush, now, would we? (Except in the stories, of course....)

xx Steph
Well said Steph.
There are lots of stories I don't read because they're in a category that doesn't do it for me or in a style that doesn't draw me in to read more. However I do respect that someone has put in a lot of effort and time to write a story and I respect that. Read and don't vote or comment if it's not for you, others may love it and let them enjoy it. That's what Lush is about in my opinion.

Barack approves!
Thank you Nicola! I didn't know I could block stories and now I will. I just avoid this category as I refuse to read them & thus, refuse to score them. I agree we should vote on merit and not because we don't like a certain category.

I wrote about this stupidity in another thread I believe last year. This is seriously unfair to the author.

On another note, it is also not appropriate to give a great score to a story based on profile pics.
