I have been writing a story for 2 hours when a chat request popped up. A screen came up explaining how to respond to the request. When i finally got rid of that screen and went back to my story, everything was there except for the body of my story. Title, description, tags etc. were there, but the story gone. Does anyone know what happened and if it is possible tom retrieve my story. I cannot believe that I just lost 2 hours of writing. Help! J
Hi Scorpio,
Sorry to hear that. I never write anything online which is important, it's always on my hard drive before it goes anywhere else. That includes lengthy emails and reports too, it just isn't worth the risk, I have lost too much work over the years.
In all likelihood it is gone. A built in autosave feature every 5 minutes would be a good idea. I'll ask my programmer to take a look and see if your story is still in the system somewhere.

Hey Scorpio...consider it a lesson learned...you have to save everything frequently when you deal with the net...like Nicola, I do everything in Word and save it often...I often put a lot of time into my stories, I can spend an hour on one paragraph...plus, I need the spell-check...
Even when I post comments here, if it is a long comment, I will select it and hit "copy" before hitting the post button...I have had too many things get lost because of faulty connections...
Shame you had to learn the hard way, but like I say...at least you learned...
Later,
Alan.
Scopio,
Sorry to hear that I always write my stories in word then copy and paste them on to here to post that way i dont lose anything.

The whole subject of backing up your work is a good one...like Bikebum says...The problem with flash drives though, is that they're so damn small, they can get lost...one of the top authors here recently could not find the most recent chapter of his story because he stored it on a flash drive and couldn't find the flash drive! Fortunately, he had sent me a draft and I still had it in my inbox...he was able to make the changes again and post it...
I would recommend CDs over tiny flash drives for that reason...lol...
Later,
Alan.
I do agree with you Alan about the flash drives being small if you are worried bout loosing them get a small portable hard drive like the Western Digital Passport series drive they are about the size of an Ipod maybe a tad bigger but not by much and they are pretty cheap at that one can be had for less than a $100.00 decent size to. ANyways again I can't stress enough on the importance of backing up.
Thanks everyone. Lesson learned for sure!
