Lush kills my phone battery

I've been spending a lot of my commute time on Lush (on a train, people, safety first). I haven't upgraded to Gold yet (not for want of trying, but that's a separate topic), and have noticed markedly decreased battery life. I think the site has a lot of JavaScript that's related to rotating. And animating the adds.

I know there is a "mobile" version of the site, but it's not really fully featured, so I use the full site. But it's killing my battery.

I know the adds are a necessary evil, but maybe there can be a compromise when the full site is being viewed on a mobile device - to use more static content and lay off on some of the JS?
My novel, The Society, is available now in the Kindle Store: http://www.amazon.com/The-Society-ebook/dp/B00BPF9U2I

I was away snowboarding a while ago, and I noticed it too. I didn't quite connect it to Lush, but now, it makes sense. I had a significantly reduced battery life on my CrackBerry (don't laugh - I try to support Canadian techies ... but may need to soon support American techies). I was shocked how it drained my battery!
Try using opera mini. It has less features than a lot of browsers and is available for iPhone, BlackBerry, Android, older phones and tablets too. It has a range of good features like HTML5 and is actually pretty good for saving your battery. Because it doesn't use flash GIFs only show a static picture, so that'll save power and megabytes too and the full site looks pretty good on it. I use it in single column mode, so that makes it easier to flip through the pages.
I was just chatting with a girl the other day who told me that since she's been hanging out on Lush that she's been going through a lot of batteries...

Oh wait, we're talking about phones here...I'm sorry, wrong thread...my bad...

LOL you should tell her to invest in rechargeables! They make it easier on the wallet without sacrificing any of the fun!

as for the OP I don't what kind of phone you are on but on some phones (and mobile browsers) you can turn java off which could help save your battery.

The battery drain is *probably* coming from the polling that keeps your session alive and picks up new messages (black boxes). If you do not login, is the drain less noticeable? If we stoped this, then you would appear offline to all your friends, I guess this is an option.

true, but sometimes one is not in a re-charging place .... hence why a few of us ask why does it drain our batteries so fast.

Here is something's I do to save battery

1. Decrease your brightness
2. Shut down all programs. On iPhone press the home button 2xs the hold down on icons and close them out.
3. Only use battery meter not the percentage. The percentage takes a lot of battery.
4. If reading stories download in PDF. This takes less battery.
5. Turn off features such as notifications and location settings. Also turn off wifi. It uses battery as it constantly looks is for wifi.

Hope this helps. :-)
