Not a fan for one reason. I try to send thank yous to anyone who comments on my stories. I have run into this roadblock a few times in the past with gold members when I tried to send a quick thanks. Also, you don't know they won't receive until AFTER you've typed out the message and hit send. Oh well, I'll just continue on with the telepathic thank yous. 
Just for that reason. I hardly ever send out nefarious messages.

I do that too - at least I try to keep up with thank you messages.
I thought that option had been there for a long time, only to receive messages from friends or only from gold members... Certainly, I've encountered it some time ago...
I get very few annoying PMs, so I don't see myself ever using this function, but good to know it's there I guess...

I'd most likely leave mine open as people like to pm me about how they enjoyed my stories. Its a good way to make new friends. But I can understand why some folks would want to check off on the friends only, as they may have been harassed by some idiot asshole(s). I like that we get several options here on Lush, so we can tailor a lot of our experience to our individual character and wants. That is one of the things that makes Lush a great experience.
