Site Suggestion - IM Character Countdown

Firstly, a big sloppy kiss for Gav! Big Hugs

You do fantastic work on the site and everyone appreciates it very much.

The character count was recently increased in the 'black box' IM chat windows which was a great idea.
A problem I have noticed is that they will let you continue typing past the new character limit without you knowing it - the result being cut-off messages at the other end.

If it was programmed to stop you typing any more into the window once the limit had been reached, this would be ok but would possibly leave you having to go back and re-word it a bit to fit everything in.

Thoughts?

I've posted this in bug list section earlier today, not really knowing if it is a bug.. Anyway, I don't mind how it is done, as long it does stop us from typing novel in a blackbox. I am okay with whatever you decide, maybe what would be easiest for Gav?

Before the character count was increased, it used to prevent you from typing beyond the allowed point. I assume that could be brought back with ease.
