Suggestion to create an Account Credibility system

What you are proposing is a cooling off period, similar to buying a gun in some or most of the USA. While noble, with the Internet it's not really practical. Yes, there are trolls. Yes, there are those who create sock accounts just to cause trouble. Unless you're willing to pay a premium, say $30 per month, accessing a free site to share ideas leaves the door open for that type of miscreant. The Chat, Forum and Story Moderators try their best to keep them at bay, but they are not perfect.

Perhaps if you rethink your proposal, you might find a different methodology.

I would like to suggest creating an Account Credibility system on Lush, whereby new members are only allowed to perform certain tasks once they have achieved a certain status on the site. This would put the brakes on people creating fake accounts with the intent to be disruptive. It would seem that today it is possible to sign up with a new account, be an ass and disappear. I realize that most of the perpetrators will be caught out at some point down the line, but why not discourage the buggers before they are given the chance to cause problems in the first place? My feeling is that this could a) avoid discomfort to existing site members, and b) reduce the amount of clean-up required after the fact.

...

As I read the suggestion, it seems that the only benefit would be to make the site somewhat tidier.

Personally, I prefer a rather messy site with much back-and-forth, including remarks that are thoughtful and intelligent, as well as those that are inane and idiotic.

"Nay"
In all seriousness, I don't think your suggestions are practical, GirlyWorld. This is a social erotic site where members are given the opportunity to write erotic stories, to live out fantasies, discuss things they cannot talk about in their real word lives, and meet people doing the same from all over the world. They type of things you are suggesting are invasion of privacy 'Big Brother' type things which would actually run counter to what makes this site popular. Asking members to divulge such information etc. would probably shrink membership to the point that Lush could not afford to function. It would certainly destroy Lush's popularity and appeal.

What you suggest might be good for a small club that does not want to be very inclusive.

That is my opinion.

Please remind to never make any site suggestions again. It's seriously not worth the hassle.

Oh, and to add, I sent PM's to a couple of ladies to apologize for going overboard and neither of them had the grace to acknowledge my apology. It makes me wonder...

Please, Dani The Threatener, wield your almighty powers and shut this thing down. It's been a farce.
Sounds complicated to program. You will always have the Internet trolls that are up to no good. The real members that find this a community and just not another sex site will always support one another.

*chews on my wad of bubble gum while give you a cold hard stare* quit being a dick. feel free to complain or report me, btw, i don't give a fuck. grow up for god's sake. ok, i'm out of here. just wasted a precious 15 seconds on nothing. *blows bubble, pops it* bye.

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

This is true, and perhaps my suggestion was too prescriptive. I was hoping that it might spark some debate and generate alternative suggestions to keep the rogue few at bay.

I have the feeling you enjoyed those 15 seconds.

You can't just expect to always have it your way. Not when it comes to what hoops people should jump through in order to get certain privileges. Not when it comes to how people respond to your suggestions or to your apologies.

You made suggestions on how to improve the overall experience of Lush: awesome, keep them coming!
Fellow lushies showed their involvement with the site by discussing your suggestions.
Mods showed how the current system works in practice (and that it actually does work).
You apologized.

I'd say all is good

So...you insult and belittle those who dare to question you, and then think that an apology sent days later merits a response?

Please answer by a) how did I insult you? and b) how did I belittle you?

I was surprised that you didn't know what an illegitimate member would be. Please be very clear with your answers to the above.

Also, "days later" for the apology as you say was less than 2 days, and I will state again that you didn't even bother to recognize the apology, let alone accept it.

I don't understand this issue. I find Lush to be a very friendly environment. I've had a few people who didn't like my stories. Hell sometimes I don't like them either. If you really want crazy try Literotica. Two days ago I got an email that said, "I hope you and your wife die and your children grow up as orphans. Now that's negative feedback.

I'm sorry you had such a negative thing said to you!

On a note more towards this thread... I've got to agree with the many others that have posted here. It wouldn't be a plausible solution to trolls. There will always be trolls. There will always be pests. There will always be troublemakers and the sort. HOWEVER. There will also always be kind people. There will always be helpful people. There will always be a friend or two.
Basically, there will always be a place here for anyone who wants to join Lush. (A certain nutcase who has it out for the admins excluded).
Trust me, I can understand the frustration of being harassed, but in joining an adult site like Lush...I also kind of expected it. After being here for 4 years, and if the trolling has been such a big issue for you...I'm wondering if you've contacted the admin about it before?

As for the negativity that has been running rampant through this thread, I understand and appreciate that you've apologized to the members you feel you offended. However, calling them out in a public forum for not accepting or acknowledging your apology is just going to spark more issues. It is their prerogative to do what they will with your message to them. That's just how apologies work.

The following is a "private Message as sent by Mr. GW, I' assuming in response to something I poster. I have not otherwise addressed this topic elsewhere! Just saying... I'm not sure of his intentions in sending the following:

To clarify... The cartoon I posted above was done as a satire type reference towards the process of monitoring "new accounts, and in no way was a personal attack towards GW... I am impressed with his sophisticated nature of expressing himself, both here and in private message! Not sure of his intentions, but well written! A lot said in such few words!

Quite easy Weekender. It means don't even try to belittle me.
In all seriousness, I actually see some merit to your idea.

But the fact still stands that we're not gonna penalize a majority of potential members for the relative handful that come here with malicious intent.

If you took a break from being offended, you would have seen that some great brainstorming came from your suggestion.

Above all else, remember that we're adults. And we're teeming with ideas and opinions. It's all in the delivery.

I'm not really all that offended Danielle. Like I said, I felt annoyed that the initial response was negative rather than consultative (i.e. discussion rather than disregarding there may be any issue), but ok. My suggestions were a bit too prescriptive and I would have done better to ask for suggestions rather than to suggest. Lesson learned.

Next time I'll ask "Do you see any issues with X?" and if you do then what do you suggest could be done about it?

I'm a professional consultant in the arena of process improvement, so I guess I got a bit carried away with my knowledge of the field. Sorry for that.

GW.

Nice train wreck, BTW VanGogh.
