Nicola, first let me say this is an awesome site! You and your helpers do a fantastic job.
I would like to suggest that you come up with an idea for special features /functions for members who would pay a small monthly (paid yearly of course) fee to get them. I for one would gladly pay 12-20 USD for that, mostly to help out the site.
What do you (and of course anyone else reading this ) think ?

Well, if you should decide to go ahead with a paid membership I want to be the first paid member! I really think people would go for it, as tons of other sites do it, and people are used to it already! As you say ads cover most months, but what about the rest? It would be nice if when hosting fees increase or a hard drive goes belly up you wouldn't have to dig into your pocket To cover them!

i know im knew and therefore don't have much influence but i think there are definitely pros and cons to doing both.
Pros: would be financial security (in terms of like ernie said, belly up hard drives and a bad advertising month) and maybe even an occasional bonus for the people like gav, nicola and the other high up moderators that keep this site of the utmost quality. but cons would be that yeah it gets tiring to constantly be bombarded with the "go lush gold and receive all these special features ad's" plus it is not ideal for people who A cant afford another monthly bill (god knows we have plenty) and B for those who do not want lush gold service charges on their cards. all and all i think its food for thought though. i would seriously consider joining so i could support this community i have had a good first few days as a member and my time on the site prior to joining was spectacular too
