I think you're looking for THIS PLACE.

LOL No, been there too. But I have seen forums with that feature as well. I have to admit thought that I was expecting a comment similar to that one.

Aha, unless you're kidding why would you want Lush to start charging us for sending messages?

Yeah, I wasn't exactly serious here...FB has been doing some real strange things lately, just had to take a screen shot...couldn't believe it myself, but I have heard other people say the same thing btw...very strange to me, really...

You know you want it, you know you need it bad...get it now on Amazon.com...

Being slightly more serious, it has been suggested in the past and discussed at length (in this very forum, I think). Most people who commented (notably, the boss) didn't like it as an idea.

Thanks for the reply. This thread is 40 pages long, so I am sure my oversight will be forgiven..... more so since it seems "dick size" threads are perfectly ok even if they are asked a couple times a day. (sorry, could not resist LOL... all in good fun)

I think we need to start charging a buck per message, like Facebook does...

I had to take a screenshot, because apparently there were some who didn't believe...myself included...

You're a dab hand at photoshop Alan!

If not, that's seriously wrong...I guess their share price is driving them to do crazy things...their ad model hasn't exactly worked all that well for them.
JohnC - the trouble we have with the forums, are that they are a fairly closed ecosystem. It's very difficult for Gav to get into the code, and make changes.

What we are working on, to compliment the Forums, is a "Groups" feature (you can start new threads, post replies, invite people to a particular group, message in bulk etc), which Gav is coding himself. We'll be able to add anything we like to that, with ease

I've seen sites do away with forums entirely, using this type of mechanism. I think there's a place for both though, the forums are kind of the watering hole, something which I find the likes of Facebook lacks in a way. They prefer millions of niche watering holes. Both approaches are equally as valid.

To be honest, I much prefer the forum to FB groups, they are endless and I lose track and dont really use them. The forum is far more user friendly and organised in my opinion, and in this day and age, with all the social media, and life business in general, Fuck,
I appreciate easy and organised. Except to say hi to my friggin' mum, i don't actually participate on FB that much, it changes so much I never know WTF i'm telling or showing or whatever. Soon as I know ...They change it.
I too prefer the forum over groups. I have seen forums add a "LIKE" to each post though, so know it can be done. I would presume it has a great deal to do with the base source code though and software package used. I just tossed it out that and had not noticed that it was already discussed. I know many times I would have loved to just let it be known that I liked a post without having to send the member a PM or make another post saying so. No worries though.... just tossed it out there. I am fine either way.

^This.

You've probably seen it on forums powered by vBulletin or phpBB forum software. Our site is written in asp.net, which limits our choice of forum software. Gav has changed some of the code in it, but he'd rather not have to deal with it at all, if need be.

I kind of agree with you CD. A central area where everyone can gather when they want to, is a very useful thing to have.

However, if members want to go off and create their own groups for people with similar interests - an "Illustrators Group", "BDSM Group", "Serious Writers", "Lush NY Members" etc, then the new Groups are a perfect way to do this.

My god, they are actually charging some people!

Yeah, they tried that move on me the other day...I like the way it says "Facebook says right now only a small number of people are testing out the program"...nice of them to pick me, makes me feel sorta special...

I can't see that lasting...someone over on the FB team has been smoking some real good stuff...

I love the message they've had on the front sign-in page for months, about Facefudge being free, and "always will be". The small print should be, "...unless you want to send a message to people directly to their inbox, rather than us "helpfully" filtering out what we think they won't find to be life-changing news (it will be, but that's not the point)".

Nicola, I owe you $4.

Hi there.
I just went to Mentalcase question about weather or not ask a boy out that she posted in Jan and wondered how it went for her...how hard would some indicator be to place on your posted post when you have had responces?
Do we have an option of being notified when someone has made a comment on one of our stories? Or maybe that's a crazy amount of work ... or if someone can tell me where that option is ... great

(you'd think I'd know!!)

I don't know how other's do it ... but I get thank you messages after I've written a comment on a story (even an OLD story) .... and I rarely check my stories after they've been up for a few weeks (mostly because the interest dies out).

Go to "Account"..."Settings" then "Settings Privacy"...look down the page toward the bottom where it says about e-mail notifications...you'll see a box to check off...

Any problems, let me know...

Thanks DM .... does that email go to Lush email or my registered email address?

oh .... and it would be nice ... Gav ... if the setting could be JUST for comments on stories ... not including comments on profile page.

This would be great.
†Jinxy Approved†

I have an idea for an improvement smile
Might just be me, but this would be handy.

At the moment, any editing of an existing story is passed back to a mod for approval - which is great!
Content and cover image changes should have a quick once over before being implemented, don't have any problem with that at all.

What would be good though is if this didn't apply to making a change to the 'Link This Story' option.
If you post a 'Part 2' story and want to edit the first to link onto the second, this currently takes your first story offline temporarily and requires a mod's time to re-approve, which I know is a valuable resource.

Is this something that could be implemented?
All the Lush mod's do a great job and this just seems like an additional burden to me. Anyone else agree?

I'd bake you all fancy cupcakes, you know I'm a dab hand in the kitchen

As far as I'm aware, simply linking a story doesn't send the story back for approval...

I get an email notification every time a comment is left on a story...

Like DM says, it's in your personal settings...

The nice thing is that it previews the comment in the body of the email, so you don't even need to check lush...

(It happens with your comments as well, I mean a preview of it... It's fab!)
Speed up your server or something. I'm no techie but this has to be one of the slowest sites around. I thought it was my PC/IPad but when I access other sites it's fast and no hang ups, not so with Lush!
Thoughts?

Is that right?
I'm sure I had to get Gem to re-approve one of my stories when the only thing I changed was the link???

Hi Alex,

Little harsh no?
I know that Lush have just invested in a new media server at great expensive and have migrated across to improve the speed and performance of the site.
It may be down to the actual .ASP architecture of the site itself which is different to the other sites you frequent; but I wouldn't say that I have had any particular problems with it myself.
Just my

I'm pretty sure I've added a link and it doesn't need re-verified (going to try one now and I'll report back)

I have to say that I've not found the site to be particularly slow - sure there are times when it's especially busy, but never really slow...

EDIT: Yup, I just changed the link on a story and it went straight back up without the need to be verified...

I never "checked" that box because I didn't want notification of pictures being posted on my page .... as I am sure you know .... if there is a frenzy of photo-tags ... I didn't want multiple emails.
