But now it is no longer on the homepage, nor will it be listed with new stories or trending stories. I do not understand this decision and why we were not told ahead of time. What is the point of singling out this category only? If people can mute it Why not let them just do that instead of taking it away from everyone?. A vast majority of my work, including my famous story is in this category. I’m extremely disappointed in this decision. Extremely.

You need to read more carefully. Each individual may opt out, as I have done, but that is the extent of it. The category is open and visible to any who wish to see it.

The way it works for me, opted in, is that I don’t see any IF stories on the home page until / unless I hit the ‘More Stories’ button at the bottom of the page.
So, to try to be clear, even if an IF story is the most recent published story, I don’t see that unless I hit ‘More Stories’ and then it’s there at the top of the home page.
Which feels like a bug but may not be.

It's not, sadly. IF stories are not shown on the front page. I don't know the reason but it may be legislative or something. 🤷♂️
But almost nobody camps on the front page anyway. It's a transient location just to show the world that content is changing rapidly. Any readers who are into a category will watch that specific category landing page for stories of that type.

There is something else obviously going on that I am not privileged to know.
You and me both! I'd blame the government meddling in issues above their paygrade. There's talk of passing a law that criminalizes any mention of step-relatives and sex because it causes untold societal harm. Or somesuch bollocks. Last draft I saw, it only mentions images and videos so we may escape, but we might be forced to axe the entire category.
Enjoy it while it lasts...
Anyone who likes that category can bookmark the category landing page instead and not be bothered by any other categories getting in the way. Trust me, it's of little consequence to readers whether it shows on the domain front page or not. That's not how the internet works any more: every page is the front page.

Everything now must say “step.”
Yes, and everything is labelled with it because it attracts traffic.
Now our government are trying to say that term's illegal too 🙄

There haven't been any changes. They do appear on the homepage unless you've opted out.
This category has never been included in the trending stories, as far as I'm aware, since that was introduced.

Yes, I corrected myself about the trending stories. But if you click on all categories, it is no longer listed. Again, you guys are dealing with ever shifting policies that come from massive hypocrites. I do not envy the task, but I appreciate the freedom you established here.
It's there. Just refresh if you don't see it.
I can see the category no problem and the 14th story down on the front page is an IF story. So all seems well to me (Firefox on both Android and Linux).
Anyone who complains about IF being singled out now obviously wasn't around for the time when it was removed and all stories in it deleted (though authors were given due notice so they could remove them themselves and get a copy) and stories on that topic banned outright. I had one story in the category and rewrote it to remove the IF element.

Because, unlike all the other categories, it involves matter that may be triggering for abuse sufferers.
I could see a couple others being trigger-y, too, but definitely this is the worst one in that regard. We lost at least one member that I know of when it came back for that very reason.
