I believe that Darwin -and other people since- was accurate about many of his theories of evolution. I don't buy the theory that humankind ascended from primates via evolution, but that's a different discussion. I do believe that many other life forms currently alive at this time did evolve from previous forms of life, and it's with that belief that every time I see a bird...I see a dinosaur.
So, the video Rocco posted yesterday of the woodpecker vs the green snake - I watched it and wondered when the raptor would prevail, or if it could. I can't stand the youtube videos which people shoot and then post - of them feeding their pythons, piranha or other 'pets'. I don't get the mentality of such a cretin. To me, those are the most perverted form of video.
I have an ingrained favoritism towards mammalian species. I don't enjoy seeing baboons being torn and eaten by crocodiles. I do enjoy seeing a croc being gashed by a pack of hippos. I prefer to see the birds enjoying the upper hand against reptiles, fish and the occasional predatory mammal. And while I don't care much for rodents, the last thing I want to watch is a fish tearing one apart in an aquarium.
I'm not into torturing any animal for the sake of pleasure or entertainment, I have never been someone who purposely attempted to drive a motor vehicle over a turtle, or into a rabbit, etc...but when I see a smoking rooster fleeing across a lawn littered with roasted feathers, I do find some humor in the situation.

I'm a reptile fan. I have a Ball Python but I feed him frozen/thawed large mice.
I don't feed live prey, but not because I think it's wrong, only that it is potentially dangerous for the snake. A live mouse or rat could bite and harm the snake.
I have no problem with the cycle of life, and reptiles eating prey animals is normal, natural and there is nothing wrong with it. However, I do not like feeding live prey, so I am happy that my snake was fully weened off live prey when I bought him.
Animals eat other animals, that is life.

At least you don't feed live prey to the snake. I have pretty good idea that you know what type of videos I was referring to.
I assume you chose the Ball species since they don't grow to a very threatening size.
And yes, animals eat other animals, I still don't mind feeding flies to spiders or the occasional mantis.
People eat often inhumanely slaughtered livestock too. Watch Meet your Meat on youtube sometime and tell me if you don't go vegan for a few weeks afterwards, til you can blot those graphic images out of your mind.

I understand what you mean wellmade, I was just concerned that you were using a pretty broad stroke calling reptile owners "cretins". Mice, rats, rabbits and some birds (if a tree snake) are normal food for snakes, depending on what species and size.
However, you can usually tell when someone is posting a perfectly legitimate feeding video and when someone is just a douche and feeding strange animals to their snake. These types of people are ass clowns and are looked down upon inside the reptile community, they give responsible owners a bad name. Some feeding videos are legitimate and some are 12 year olds being idiots.
And yes, I chose the ball for its size and docile temperament.
