The Red Velvet Oreo is real and it's coming February 2nd.

The tropes of a product cycle — rumors, speculation, confirmation, and hands-on impressions — typically don't apply to a cookie. But that's the story behind the red velvet Oreo, which leaked in late October and has been confirmed for release on February 2nd. The 20-cookie package (less than the standard Oreo) will cost approximately $4.50 and be available for about 6-8 weeks (aka "through Valentine's Day and beyond") or whenever supplies run out.

So how's it taste? A number of media outlets — including Time, BuzzFeed, and Good Morning America — have weighed in with various levels of excitement. The general consensus seems to be that it's a slightly sweeter version of the regular Oreo with no hints of cream cheese, the de facto frosting flavor for red velvet confectionary.

If you can't wait to try a cookie, Oreo is running a contest to send out free boxes this week to 20,250 people (yes, a strangely specific number).

It just seems like a big marketing plan to me... which seems to be fairly successful so far according to what Liz mentioned in her post.

I mean, the only ingredient(s) they've added is most likely red colorant and maybe a bit of additional sugar; the rest of the recipe is presumably exactly the same.

It's pretty similar to Coca-Cola who released a transparent cola at some point, the re-release of their vintage bottles, or their new Coke Zero which is essentially the same as Coke Diet: it makes people talk about the company while only having to invest in the presentation of their products. The perfect definition of 'marketing'.

So no, I wasn't eating Oreo cookies before and I'm not any more thrilled by them now that they're available in red.

I'm way too busy trying to discover the secret of the Caramilk anyway.

*le sigh* I was hoping for a review as awesome as the ones you do about sex toys...
So disappointed, SP, sooo disappointed.

BTW folks, these reviews for penis extenders , plastic pussies and tramp stamps do exist on Lush! Recommended Reads (by yours truly).
