Yep! This was India's big chance to stage a major sporting event, however, unlike South Africa with the World Cup, I am afraid the sub-continent blew it.
Nevertheless, the actual sporting events are still worth watching - just ignore the empty stands.

Well, judging from the way they handle my calls every time I need technical support, I'm hardly surprised...
Did you hear a few swimmers got deli belly from the pool water ??(shudders). Gross!
Hey Lois, they tested the water and it is fine though seems strange that so many swimmers are suffering. The food is supposed to be fine as well so who knows what the problem is. It is a shame the way things have worked out, seems like everything is going against the poor Indians.

Being Canadian I have wastched some of the games. Enjoyed the swimming and track in particular. I was most intrigued by the animal stories. They have trained Monkeys (larger variety, don't remember name) used to control the other smaller, wild monkeys. Seeing the big guys on the back of bikes is quite cute. Not widely advertised but very disturbing to many of the athletes is the snake problem. Numerous snakes have been captured in and around the athletes village, including a cobra type - YIKES! There is a special service used by the games to capture and relocate these uninvited guests. I have a friend whose son is competing and his email stories about the reptiles are quite compelling.
