Wednesday my computer was infected with a hideous virus. I was gone at the time and my asst called me that the screen was full of pop-ups. When I got back to the office I tried to fix the problem. So far, nothing has worked. I do have an internet connection, speed test has been done and it's working "normally". But it's not. Slllllooooowwwww. Pages with images or graphics take forever to load, imagine 1990's AOL dial-up speeds.
It seems to have specifically targeted google. Google normally knows what you're typing before you get done, not anymore. When I type the whole thing and hit enter it will find links, slowly. However any link I click, to verified sites, will take me to a spam site for home mortgages.
The virus is tricky. It got thourgh SpyBot, Malewarebytes Anti-Maleware, and AVG anti virus. Ran a scan with all three and no threats were found.
Downloaded a newer version of SpyBot and scanned, it found 12 threats. When I fixed issues, not much happened. No logs, no progress, nothing. The program shut itself down, when I reopened SpyBot it would not even open again. "The Procedure entry point blah blah blah... could not be located in the dynamic link library...."
Both Internet Explorer and Google Chrome have been infected.
Anyone got any suggestions? I have cable internet and it's always been instanteously fast. Now having to wait 10-15 seconds for a page to load seems like an eternity.
edit... the virus also has stopped the Lush black box indicator sound too
When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser. Socrates Just to save you tearing your hair out, I'd backup whatever you need and reinstall, extreme, I know but it may be your best solution and at least is a last resort. Sounds like a complete bitch of a virus.
err... golly gee... I sure hate to say it....
get a Mac
Stop looking at tentacle porn. There. I said it.
You said "maleware" you mean you've been looking at guys bits or did you malware?
Sorry though, I've had issues with my phone too...
I've got a huge maleware issue. Left untended, it ends up cluttering everything, especially the top of the couch and the bathroom floor. Stay vigilant!
Lady X, please do not transform his non-specific gender malware problems into a gender related "maleware" issue or we "males" may be forced to further infect your couch and bathroom floor... this can expand into leaving the toilet seat up as well and further escalating into leaving dribbles on the seat.
Your best bet would be to back everything up and then hit f8 while the system is loading. This will bring up an option to restore factory settings (provided you are running vista or win 7 anyway) You will have to load everything back though but it is a sure fire way of getting rid
It sounds like some kind of a DNS Hijack / Trojan. Might be in your user profile. Try adding a new user and logging in as that user. If you're not techie, these things can be impossible to get rid. My work PC caught something a few weeks back. Again, I wasn't doing anything. I just got it cleaned up and then it did it again. I was sitting in front of it the second time. It came from a sidebar advert whilst IE was sitting on , which is probably worse than looking at tentacle porn.
My suggestion, if you're using Windows, is to get rid of Windows and find a good linux program for your operating system. Then use some other browser besides Internet Explorer. I am running Ubuntu and never have had a problem with computer viruses. I haven't upgraded to 12.04 yet, so I can't say how it works though. Microsoft is the pits, everything associated with them sucks.

I tried changing users. The virus prevents me from changing anything in the system as if I'm not the administrator. I can restart the whole system but I'll lose my work program, it's a piece of junk but it gets the job done. One tech already was flustered by it as he couldn't fix it. Another I spoke to on the phone and he knows what it is, says it's fixable but takes time.
LX... but I LOVE tentacle porn. Nothing gets the juices flowing like it.
