Have you ever?
Do you enjoy doing so?
Are you naturally shy and reticent?
How old where you when you first did so?
"Fuck that noise"
"They pay me to write the crap, not speak it."
Where do you stand?
Personally...I've written campaign speeches and recited a few. Given eulogies and enjoyed doing so - considered it a privilege, as a matter of fact.
I am, in point of fact...pretty much the same in public, as I appear to be here.
Upfront and in your face. I might also be on top of your toes, as some would note.
Speakers should write, imo. Writers should speak and we all can do better at both.
If you don't agree, blow me.
The same GQP demanding we move on from January 6th, 2021 is still doing audits of the November 3rd, 2020 election.
I think I'll pass on the blow you business as my mouth doesn't open that far...
As to public speaking I'm hopeless at it and have always been so ever since my junior years when the nuns made me do it in front of the class and a hall full of parents (speak that is).
"Hey, don't knock masturbation! It's sex with someone I love." Woody Allen
"I am willing to admit that I may not always be right, but I am never wrong." Samuel Goldwyn
During my graduate work, I had to present my work at various conferences. I am really shy and don't normally seek the limelight so I would sweat buckets doing it and really not enjoy it. I don't know if high school counts as "public" speaking but I've had to do presentations in front of the class. I did Toastmasters for awhile and that's helped with the confidence but I still don't enjoy it.
I don't do well with crowds as it is so I wouldn't be the best person for public speaking. I always dreaded having to get up in front of the class during school scared the shit out of me. Plus I tend to be a little on the shy side and keep to myself more.
I won my school's public speaking contest in grade six, and have enjoyed every opportunity to speak ever since. I also had speaking parts in church Christmas plays from a very young age. (maybe 5 or 6) Despite being completely comfortable in front of a crowd, I have found that if I do not properly prepare what I want to say, then I tend to stutter, or stumble over my words a little. If I prepare, it's completely smooth.

Moi? Never!!! Does lecturing over a thousand kids count? I am a teacher, so I public speak on a regular basis. Radio, TV, documentaries, audio books, English passages for text books.
Do you enjoy doing so?
It is the job. Now if I could be a teacher and have no students I'd be a politician. I find when I am in the classroom, lecture hall, taking charge of events etc... I love it. Sharing what I know, learning from their questions, so much from them that is what I enjoy. When it comes to a group of my peers? Oh gosh no. I would prefer to be the one standing off to the side, having coached them in their delivery and away from the spot light.
Are you naturally shy and reticent?
You are never going to beleive this... but really, rats can really play ping pong. I am naturally shy and reserved. I do not enjoy the centre of attention, it is not something I need nor do I desire it. I will take charge of a situation when I feel the current leadership is lacking. I prefer to watch and observe, then slowly get my feet wet. If I feel I can make someone smile through a wacky reply, I'll do it simply because making someone laugh or chuckle is important to me. But in most cases, I will only say something if it needs to be said, or to see another side.
How old where you when you first did so?
You know... if I did not always look up to see what thread this was, I would say you were taking a poll about sex. That could be a really fun survey to answer. See you in detention later then? Brilliant!!!! Now, where was I? Oh right. Public Speaking. My parents insisted all their kids partake in speech competitions, I think it was about six or seven was my first, then my folks put me in a special class for pronunciation, enunciation, delivery etc... then I started winning.
"Fuck that noise"
"They pay me to write the crap, not speak it."
Where do you stand?
On this last one, I do agree with you to a point. I'll read whatever I am paid to read.... ONLY if I can stand behind what I am saying. There have been many times when I have been asked to read an article so it could be recorded and attached to students textbooks, I have declined. Their information was not accurate, was biased towards foreigners, culturally wrong, and more. I cannot do that on principle alone.
A news anchor, or at times a politician must read things they do not want to read. But that is the job they made the choice of having. I say to them, suck it up and do the job.
Living life and enjoying life are two different things... just need to figure out how to do both at the same time to live it right!
Woman... GO FLY A KITE!!!!! Take a slideshow walk with me on a walk through the parks of Inner Mongolia, China. Then enjoy the tale of a very traditional day in the life of a white Woman in China. Yes, I have, and loved it. in my college years was the first time, and since then have done so on sales calls, internal meetings on whatever b.s. sales approach needed to be shared. have not done so in a while since leaving the sales game, but found speaking in front of a group very enjoyable.
