So, I'll be finding myself out of work for a few weeks between now and January. They're not all consecutive though. We're having rolling layoffs, or furloughs, in my department as a cost savings for the company. Next week I'm off, then at the end of November. I'll be off for two weeks around Christmas and New Year and some undisclosed week in January. I don't know what to do during the down weeks though. Oh sure, there's always house work to catch up on, but that's mightily mundane. I'd like to get some side work, really, but not sure what to look for. I'm in the U.S., about equidistant from Chicago and St. Louis. Any of you savvy folks have any suggetsions?
Good luck. I have been laid off for three weeks now and all I have done is created a bunch of huge messes and then cleaned them all up...and it has been a lot of fun in the process.
You can hit Chicago, get a deal on a hotel downtown off the internet that’s not too expensive and just knock around a few days. I don’t drive there; it costs almost as much to park your car as your room will be. I take the train or Mega Bus isn’t too bad.
Sounds great, except I'd have to take the whole family. And that would be expensive. The whole point is that I won't be making any money that week, lol.
I missed the "side work" thing sorry. Hummm... You could become a “pleasure consultant” … I’m kidding
