There is a charm about the forbidden that makes it unspeakably desirable."

C'è un fascino per il proibito che lo rende indicibilmente desiderabile.

Just finished Ready Player One. Fun fast read. How can you not love a book where MechaGodzilla shows up at the climax!?

Just started this one. Written by a friend of mine. Shockingly good writer.

no one told me there was a guide! shit, now i'm nervous that i've been doing it wrong...

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

Purity, by Jonathan Franzen

Is it good?

I have always had a grudge against him because I thought he parlayed his friendship with David Foster Wallace (my avatar!) into publicity after Wallace killed himself. I read Franzen's Freedom, but didn't like it, though I am very willing to admit I am overly biased.

Would you recommend Purity?

I read the Constitution at least once a year. It's a good thing to know and understand what it says and means.

Looking around the country today I surmise that very few citizens have ever read it, let alone study it.

This is a widely circulated internet meme falsely attributed to Jefferson. He never actually said this at all. The closest Jefferson quote to this sentiment is this:

"Let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the constitution," in The Papers of Thomas Jefferson
Ernest Hemingway: A Farewell to Arms.

It's so beautiful and sad.

"I kissed her and saw that her eyes were shut. I kissed both her shut eyes. I thought she was probably a little crazy. It was all right if she was. I did not care what I was getting into. This was better than going every evening to the house for officers where the girls climbed all over you and put your cap on backwards as a sign of affection between their trips upstairs with other officers."

I stayed up so late to finish it last night that I really finished it this morning. I won't say how it ends but - oh golly goosebumps.
I've read so many books this year - more than 50 anyway. This affected me the most.

It affected me deeply too.

Immortal Poems of the English Language
For several months now, "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance."

It's the most densely complex thing I've ever read and I'm still not sure I've understood even a tenth of the message and all the themes yet.
