Four years ago, a novel about a sparkly vampire and the girl who loves him took the world by storm.
It has been hailed as an achievement for feminism, a step forward, a new page in the fight. A female writer, a female protagonist, a female director for the eventual movie deal. This is what would make it click for young girls seeking a purpose and a fight.
The book, of course, was the first in the Twilight Saga.

Now JMHO!

I really don't think that the Twilight books will have that great an impact on girls as the author of the blog suggests. There are too many other positive influences. We are not living in the 1950s anymore. Times have changed, girls have expectations. The trend is up and it is unstoppable.

I have lots of friends who are both women as well as lawyers, doctors, small business owners, professors, executives, teachers etc. They will not let sexism or whateverism stop or deny women. They also have me and many men on their side. You can count on that.

The real problems regarding the subjugation of women exists in those societies where women are property as defined by religious dogma. Also included in that group are societies where patriarchy is culturally defined.

I agree. I don't think there's that many girls that would pick up on the things she thinks they will. Stay at home, he rules the roost, etc. There is too much influence to the contrary out there.
