All I can say is days like today happen once in a blue moon! Any other space geeks on here facsinated by this?
Take a look at the moon. If it's a clear night it will be big and bright. Tonight's the night for some outdoor fun...
A blue moon is the appearance of the third full moon in a season with four full moons. The term has also mistakenly been used to refer to the second full moon in a month. Most years have twelve full moons that occur approximately monthly. In addition to those twelve full lunar cycles, each solar calendar year contains roughly eleven days more than the lunar year of 12 lunations. The extra days accumulate, so every two or three years (7 times in the 19-year Metonic cycle), there is an extra full moon.
A blue moon arrives on the same day that Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, was laid to rest. Coincidence?
It could be argued that the heavens -- and Armstrong's family, friends and many fans -- think not. In announcing Armstrong's death last week at the age of 82, his family asked: When people "see the moon smiling down at you, think of Neil Armstrong and give him a wink."

It's too cloudy where I am to see it, not bloody fair, I was looking forward to seeing it! I always seem to miss meteorological (if that's the correct word) events.

The Blue Moon was actually pretty cool to see. It was so big when near the horizon but as it rose into the night sky it kind of lost its mystique. But it was still much better than this horrible version!!

it was pretty cloudy where I was. It was pretty damn bright the day before though do hopefully the effects will last a bit longer. You won't see another till 2015. And yes, it I'd meteorological. Top word.
I'm glad there are some other science geeks on here!
