Have you ever wrote a story/poem you've never been able to look back on? If so why?

Many of us at one time or another have poured our emotions into our writing. Is there one piece you posted, but can't go back to read? Was it a different time in your life perhaps? Was there something or someone in your writing that you find too painful to revisit?
Well, I wouldn't revisit some of the things I've written, but not so much because it's painful, rather, it just serves no useful purpose to me now.

For me, a poem is often just a way to vent - in much the same way as a body will react to being poisoned - it will vomit, sweat, shit and throw a fever to get the toxins out. That's what those kind of pieces do for me.

Don't get me wrong, that's not always the case, but when it's one of those "deep personal poems", it's very much a snapshot of a moment in time. While it may have been raw and from a place of hurt or sadness then, well, it means nothing now. The expulsion of the words and feelings at the time was what was needed - no need to revisit.

So, to go back and read it is for me, sort the equivalent of listening to myself on an answering machine - it was relevant at the time, but now, it just makes me uncomfortable.

I concur, I have however, deleted all the foul of previous mind garbage.

Yes, I think I have too... Their job was done smile
Things I've posted here at Lush I don't go back to re-read, not because they are emotionally painful but painful from a technically or creative standpoint. I do have such things in my journals however... dark times in my life I never want to revisit.
There are a couple of my stories and poems...that once posted, I realize they are 'really' bad. I write quickly and sometimes don't really follow the path that my mind wants to go.
