Since doing that, they have added a new email notification from their "system" or some such worded bs, which advises that there has been "activity" on my page and I should check etc.
I have unsubscribed from that messaging service too (they provide a link), and made sure everything in my account has notifications turned off again (all were off).
Today, I had 2 more emails, advising that such and such liked the page etc.
So, in summary, there's NO WAY to turn off getting messages from Facebook.
I have added a message rule in my email program to ditch everything from Facebook in the trash directly now.
It's got to the stage it's bordering on harrassment. I would close my account if it were not for me wanting to see if they have anything innovative on there we can use on this site!
