There's a glitch in the forum software chef, that reports each bot visit as a person, so if a bot from google or somewhere is heavily spidering the forum part of the site, it incorrectly gets counted in. If it spreads out to 50 new posts for example, it might be counted up to 50 times.
Our programmer is fixing up this issue over the coming week or so. It's the same on the story side of the site, but less than 2% of the "active visitors" reported there are actually bots.
