We've all probably been to a new place and mispronounced a local word or two. Where I come from is the southwest desert area of the US called Arizona. The two words I've heard mispronounced the most are Tucson and Gila. I'll give you an example of the correct pronunciation and then the common incorrect. Please join in with words that are mispronounced where you come from.

Tucson (pronounced /ˈtuːsɒn/Too-sawn) is a city in and the county seat of Pima County, Arizona USA-Many people say ('Tuck-son')

The Gila River (pronounced /ˈhiːlə/; O'odham [Pima]: Keli Akimel or simply Akimel) (an American Indian word) is a tributary of the Colorado River, 650 miles (1,044 kilometers) long, in the southwestern states of New Mexico and Arizona-Many people say ('Gila') : )
Torture the data long enough and they will confess to anything.
when I was 16 and in a Hairdressing salon as a junior apprentise. I a french ladies name wrong. She was called Miss Phuket - I said hello Miss fuckit LOL

The reason for this story is that in Thailand I'm sure people pronounce that place called Phuket the way I did this French lady's surname.

Another of my old in that region is Road Forks, NM, just five miles from the AZ border on I-10.

But my best of the west taco award has to go to Plateau, TX. they deep fry their own shells and make the salsa from scratch.
They sell the salsa in mason jars to take home. It has no perservatives, so the longer it sits after opened, the hotter it gets.
