Rotating house puts family in a spin

SYDNEY (Reuters) – An Australian family is turning heads with a rotating house that can guarantee a different view every time they wake up.

The Everinghams have been in a spin since they moved into their dream home in the countryside north of Sydney three years ago. They can turn the house to follow the sun without having to leave the comfort of their armchairs.

"When you wake up you do wonder where you'll be facing," said Luke Everingham, a sound-engineer who came up with the idea with his wife, Deb, after chatting with neighbors.

The neighbors wished they had built their home 15 degrees further to the north to capture more sunlight.

The octagonal-shaped house sits on a turntable powered by a small electric motor and controlled by a computer, which allows it move on demand.

The house cost about A$700,000 ($641,000) to build and can complete a full rotation in about 30 minutes, according to the Everinghams' own Web site (www.everinghamrotatinghouse.com.au).

I seriously think this would be really awkward! Don't you think it would throw you off balance after being in a spinning house all day?
There used to be a bar/pub here in the town I live in that had a center area that you could sit in that turned.About 50 seats or so. Ever so slowly. You'd get up to go pee and come back and your seat wasn't where you left it. Very cool in the beginning but, the longer the evening got the harder it was to find your seat again.
Not sure how I would like this. I want to say it'd be cool but....
Yeah I could only imagine how hard that would be after having a little alcohol in your system...lol
I would like it in the morning, and have it follow the sun across until dusk. At night, it wouldn't really matter to me.
I would like to see how they installed the plumbing and electrical .,,,, hope they marked where the septic tank is.
Good point Shame. I'd like to see the "small motor" that turns it.

We have a restaurant here in downtown Cincinnati and it spins. but i think it takes like... 2 hours to make an entire rotation. Its on the tippy top of a tower. Pretty neat. i've been there many times.
