And Gooood Mooornning Deauville!
So Lady Jay and I are on the next phase of our vacation in Deauville, France, which is on the north coast, in Calvados, with a couple of friends who came over from England to join us for the week.
Beautiful but kind of weird place, sort of like Cape Cod meets Disneyland, with rococo designs that look like somebody's idea of Cinderella's Summer Cottage.
We had a delicious dinner last night at a family-run restaurant, with the whole family serving. Mama was the Maitresse d'Hotel, little sister was our server, and, although we didn't see him, I suspect Dad was the chef. All local specialties β lots of cream, plus a Trou Normand for dessert β apple sorbet (with bits of apple) with Calvados (apple) brandy poured over it.
I had to try it, and I'm glad I did, but I won't order it again. Not a big fan of Calvados, although if Jameson's ain't available, I might quaff it in a pinch!
Hope y'all are behaving β well, this time β glad to hear David's enjoying Grand Canara β our friends are going there in the summer, fuel prices allowing. David, if you have any tips for restaurants or things to see or do, I would like to pass them on.
Working on my comp piece. Still a lot of work to do, while simultaneously writing a regular Substack post. Glad to have a chance to actually write. I'm up earlier than the rest of my party, and that's my quiet time to write.
So I'll leave you with a photo of the sun setting over the (chilly) Norman beach!
