One of the places we visited was Honfleur, a long-time artist community on Normandy's Channel coast. I swear there were streets where I thought Belle, from Beauty and the Beast, would pop out of a door at any moment!

Hello all and welcome back Bear. I too have returned but with an unwanted tag-along called a "virus". Yeah I have a cold or some such crap on top of my jet lag. Nice trip but I am becoming increasingly convinced that I need to take some more staycations. This is two trips out of the last five or so that have ended with me being ill.

Sorry to hear that, Ape. Hopefully, the virus will clear quickly. I am flying home tomorrow; I certainly don't want a pesky virus... lots to do on my return.

Thank you for the photos, Bear. Honfleur, my wife has been there, and it does look nice, as you say, Disney-esque. 😊 However, I do believe they also advertise the town as the wettest place in France, so it seems you were lucky catching the place on a dry day. My wife didn't, btw.

Having just been in Hawai'i, which has the wettest place on the freakin' planet, I so get this. Let's just say we were glad we brought ponchos along. The Big Island was especially bad but we got rain on others, too.

And given there's a dearth of music in here right now, let's rock this joint. Yeah, the metalhead ape has returned.

First up, Amberian Dawn of Finland sports a new lead vocalist in Nicole Willerton and will be releasing her debut with the band in June.

And then another heavy Finn, Tarja joins forces with extreme metal legend Dani Filth of Cradle of Filth for the latest single from her upcoming album. She's basically up to 30 years in the music business now or close to it, with 9 years as founding lead singer of Nightwish and then 21 as a solo artist (she and Nightwish had a rather acrimonious breakup in 2005).

For those who like things a bit quieter, here's UK prog act Solstice with an acoustic performance. The only permanent member of this 40+ year-old band is guitarist and founder Andy Glass, though the current lineup is pretty stable with just some rotation in the backing vocalists at times. This band's harmonies are to die for.

Hey, how about one more? Vocalist Audra Miller was still a teenager when I discovered Erie, Pennsylvania cover band First to Eleven. She's now 24 and has matured into a heckuva good rock singer (she also teaches voice). They had one lineup change a couple years back (Sadly, losing a stellar up and coming guitarist. No idea what happened to him.) but otherwise are pretty stable. This rocked up cover of a Stevie Nicks solo tune is a pretty good intro to the band and Audra.
