Last day of sweltering heat for a while.

Our trip has had some oddities: delayed flight, then it took us a full hour longer than typical to fly from Tampa to Detroit due to weather, our Airbnb has had no power so we had to find a hotel, and today my hubby and DIL had to arrange for and hookup a generator for the school she works at so the food in the freezers and fridges wouldn’t be lost. Fortunately son’s house had power and our grandson, LW, had birthday pool party as planned while we took the Littles over to some friends house to keep them out of the way.

Tomorrow is CJ’s birthday and we will all head to the cider mill and petting farm. The humidity broke this afternoon and it was quite pleasant. Hopefully tomorrow will be just as nice.

Fingers crossed we can actually head to the Airbnb tomorrow. Fortunately the host will reimburse us for any nights we have to stay in the hotel.

If your timing is right, you may well be treated to a marvellous view of the fall colours! It's early, but possible.

Halifax and St. John are great ports to visit, but try to get away from the harbours. In Halifax, you might consider the Citadel or the Public Garden. In St. John, consider the Market.

Sydney is much smaller, and utterly charming! We have rarely felt as welcome as we did when we landed there on a Disney cruise!

My sister and her hubby went in a similar cruise and loved it, Dave! I think they went in October and loved fall colors. Enjoy!

Life sucks big hairy balls right now, so I’ll just drop a goody and retreat back into my fortress of solitude.

Well, I see that the bar is cluttered with glasses and coffee mugs, the floor is littered with shells and junk – so it must be morning!

Jay and I went to Stratford yesterday to see The Tempest, Shakespeare's last play written entirely by him. It's a bit of a dog's breakfast, TBH. Some remarkable scenes, memorable lines, and astonishing staging and costumes at the Festival – but …

It starts out as a tragedy, transitions to young people from opposing tribes falling in love, then moves to slapstick comedy, ends with terrible revenege – withheld, then forgiveness, sweetness and light, all around.

Final soliliquey – curtain.

It's almost as if the Bard couldn't make up his mind what he wanted to do – so did everything, kind of a hodge-podge of his earlier plays. We'd never seen it, so decided we should at least try.

The staging and production values were excellent – as always. The actors, likewise amazing.

The play's the thing wherein they confused the audience.

But that's Shakespeare. He wrote for a very different audience.

Coffee or tea, anyone?

Forced to study Macbeth and Chaucer's Canterbury Tales in school, I was nearly put off reading literature for life. Luckily, as an older teenager, I discovered H.G. Wells and, most importantly, J.R.R. Tolkien, and my imagination was released. 😊😈

I can understand that! Ahhh, Tolkien, especially. ❤️

I actually was already into Wells and Tolkien (and SFF in general) by the time I encountered Shakespeare. Oddly, I am a fan of old Will and quite enjoyed my visit to his place when I toured the UK. MacBeth and Much Ado About Nothing are my favorites. Henry V is good, too.
