I was talking to my wife about family things and the subject got around to competition between siblings. Having a sister myself and her being an only child she didn't get the whole competition thing. Our two compete with each other for her attention (and mine when I'm home) and I thought it would be a good subject for the Forums.
So who has siblings and who are the "only child's" here? And for those of you who have to share, do you notice a lot of rivalry between you?
I'm an only child.
Although there isn't sibling rivalry, there's still that whole element of 'proving myself' as far as being good enough for them.
Even more so because I'm an adoptee.
I get all of their love and attention and admiration. I've never had to share that with anyone. But I also get the full brunt of the pressure and expectations. Sometimes I do wish there was someone else with whom I could share the load.
Sorry, didn't mean to go off on a tangent there.
To answer your question, no, I don't deal with sibling rivalry for the aforementioned reasons.

I'm the poster child for sibling rivalry! I grew up with 3 sisters, and my twin and I are the two middle children. We are like night and day, and there's been nothing but rivalry between us for the past 20+ years. On the bright side, my younger sister and I are as close as sisters can be.
