I just got back from a one night over nighter trip for work. The hotel I stayed at was not a big chain, just a local business. The first thing I did was take a shower. The water was alternating from cold to freezing. I sat on the bed watching TV. Meanwhile, I felt like I was in a sauna and there was no way to adjust temperature in the room. I got into the bed and the sheets had a moth ball smell. If that was not enough, the noise from the other rooms could be heard as clear as day. I went to the manager to complain about the noise. He did something about the neighbors but I could still hear the rooms down the hall. To top things all, the bed I was in had a broken box spring. If I leaned to the left side of the bed, it would cave in.

Has anyone had a were motel/hotel experience?
I've tried to avoid hotel / motel rooms for the last 25 or so years after this realization dawned on me.

The same GQP demanding we move on from January 6th, 2021 is still doing audits of the November 3rd, 2020 election.
Yov've got to be careful theres a lot of dives out there
I always have a hard time when I go to hotels and motels. I've stayed in motels for 30 bucks and a cheap suite with the ex that was almost 11,000.00 a night. Sometimes the cheap is better than the high end.
I never like the bedspread to touch me. I always check the bathroom facilities. And I like to bring in a pillow that I've just bought. If I'm staying in the US, I bring a pillow from home.
I stayed in a mid-range hotel in D.C. that had frayed electric wires for the lamps and stains on the floor/carpet. The last "hotel" I stayed in was local because my house was being tented. Stains on the carpet but the bed was spotless.

I have done a LOT of traveling in my time and find it very difficult to know which hotels are going to be
sanitary, and acceptable ahead of time. Even when satisfied one time, I have found the second time unacceptable.
Therefore, I always go places prepared with a short list of alternatives, the phone number of the department/board of health, and have gone to certain rooms, and turned right around and told the proprietor I was moving on.

I also have been to very expensive restaurants that were infested. Sometimes knowing someone there ahead of time helps.
Just don't spoil a trip that may be costing you a small fortune, over a room. Be prepared.
