Jeepers, building 2 power stations per week!!

China is now building about two power stations every week, the top climate change official at the UK Foreign Office, John Ashton, has said.

He said there was no point blaming China for rising global CO2 emissions.

Rich nations had to set an example of low-carbon development for China to follow, Mr Ashton told the BBC.

His statement came as a new report suggested that China may have already become the world's biggest polluter - much earlier than expected.

I wonder if they call their programme "POWER TO THE PEOPLE"? Maybe that would be too much like a democratic slogan for them LOL.

At the rate of their economic expansion, thay are likely to need them too. The lead time for commissioning a power station is years. I hope to god that, unlike Russia those years ago at Chernobyl, they build for safety and not simply cheap production, or we are all in trouble.

It's only a matter of time before they dominate the world on a number of levels.

Interesting to read though that per head they are still miles cleaner than the UK and US, so they must have stringent controls in place.
