I almost never visit chain stores on principle. Anyone else read "No logo"?
I don't buy into this mentality. It's capitalism at its finest. Walmart just got on a roll, and no one can keep up. It's a victory. No evil involved. Just good capitalism. Try to beat them. That would solve the problem, even though there isn't a problem. Target doesn't even stock fishing supplies. If you can't stock fishing supplies in the state with 13,000 lakes (yes, that many), then you deserve to lose out to Walmart. Sears jettisoned Craftsman, their only bright spot, and now they suck.
Kroger is a B-level store, too. So is Safeway.
What I love the most is that Sam Walton was a conservative, religious man who strove to make a family-oriented, successful store. And he did. And don't start those tired, worn-out arguments about hypocrisy with faith and money. Go Walmart!

People bitch about Wal-Mart all the time, but consider this:
The parking lot is always full.
There are many people who are employed and feeding their families because of Wal-Mart.
The prices make it reasonable to shop there so others in the community can clothe and feed their fams.
I could keep listing more, but the bottom line is....we always have the choice to shop there or not shop there.
I prefer Target because it is closer. But if I cannot find something there, I will drive a few miles down the road and look for it at Wal-Mart. K-Mart is actually closer, but our location is so dirty and disorganized that I can't stomach going there.
In my area you need to shop at chain stores because the merchandise at specialty stores costs too much typically.

Quality goods and services at a good price for people that can't afford much.
Capitalism is what it's all about, isn't it, Bat? Once you get into protectionist policies, you're doomed. History bears that out.

When anything gets that large, management loses
the true picture. And Wal-Mart is that large.
But I just posted it because I saw it and went DAMN.
I never knew they were so big. We shop there - alot.
But he shop at our local grocer(sp) also.

My sister told me that even though Wal-Mart makes way more money than Target, Target donates more money to charities and schools and such.
don't get me wrong I used to love walmart when Sam ran it. He had a policy where the stores HAD to buy american first. If there were not enough american suppliers to supply the entire chain he would buy everything the suppliers would sell him and then go look for something outside the country for whatever the rest of the stores needed to keep said Item in stock. SO if I built widgets but I could only make 100,000 a year he would buy mine first then buy chinese widgets for however many he would need so that every store had widgets. Now with the children in control they dont care where they get their stuff and unless you are an outside vendor with 3 million in product liability you can't supply walmart unless you can supply EVERY store with just the products you produce. I don't know too many companies that can start up and instantly produce enough products to sell to the entire country so walmart effectively shuts them out and they are forced to go elsewhere while these foreign companies are able to just dump their products into our market.

Sam Walton was original owner/creator of Wal-mart. Nobody back then believed in his vision for a better more, convieniant family friendly store.
He also didnt believe in unions and claimed that unions would actually cost the company more. This is one of the main reasons there are no unions at Wal-Mart, and any hint of starting a union could cause you your job.
However, if it wasnt for his wife, most workers wouldnt have benefits or healthcare. So hats off to her.
Despite their senseless lack of compassion or concern for their employees at times, I am thankful to this company for helping us put food on our table and a roof over our heads for the past 10 yrs.
