Here in England they are normally called pop or else the brand ie Coke or Pepsi.

I'm from California and most people call it soda. When I lived in Arizona, a lot of people said soda, but some of the older folk called it soda pop.

OK, I am near the Cape in MA and we call it soda or the brand name. When I lived in Pittsburgh we called it pop. But there is one I have only heard in a few towns between me and Boston: TONIC!!
Also, when I was young there were still "fountains" ( a long counter with stools for sitting) in various "5 & 10s" and drug stores that would serve cold drinks for mostly teens. We had a thing a guy bought for his girl which had soda and a scoop of vanilla ice cream in it, and it was called a "soda pop!!!" or an "ice cream soda."
As they say, "Go figure."
