In my opinion, automation is going to make all those worries about 'illegals and foreigners stealin' our jobs and putting hard working Americans out of work' look quaint. And unfortunately, that cat's not going to get back in that bag. I don't think people understand how big a problem it is, but we (as a species) are going to have to get creative and figure out how to accommodate this major shift in production, labor, and economics, or there will be very tough times ahead for humanity.

The question at the moment is with AI and robots taking over everything, what can a human do that a machine can't do as well or better (and certainly cheaper)? There's still a few areas, but how long will those hold out against advances in this infant technology? And then what?

Don't believe everything that you read.

With AI, eventually humans will become unnecessary and a nuisance. The beginning of the end for us.

It feels weird to 'like' that statement, but I agree. And the thing is, I could start to imagine a world where machines do all the work and humans reap the benefits, but I'm not sure how to get there from here because the forces that keep us locked into our ways of doing things are very fucking strong (sort of the same way we've been saying for decades that someone should do something about this global warming). For one, it seems like a fully automated world is at odds with modern capitalism - when there's no more jobs left, there's no more income to be had, no money to spend on necessities (not to mention all the other consumer goods that keep the economy spinning along), and so on. The whole system breaks down.

Fear of huge social changes during the Industrial Revolution helped create Luddites. Unless this techno revolution can be managed better, that’s a path we’ll go down again. I sure hope we don’t.

The horde of Trump sheep, whose jobs will die first, will become a mob. They already are terribly gullible for conspiracy theories and not brilliant. And they are armed. But will they be able to afford ammunition, which is now at amazingly inflated prices?

The new Luddites could be more violent and successful than those at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. We could see unimaginable violence on a national scale.
