Senator Hawley Introduces Bill to Promote "Patriotism"

In Senator Hawley's Love America Bill, teachers will receive $3000 as an incentive to undergo training to teach "patriotism" to children in schools.

To quote the linked article, the Love America Bill requires students to read the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Pledge of Allegiance and recite portions of these foundational texts at certain grade levels:

• In 1st grade, students read and are able to recite the Pledge of Allegiance

• In 4th grade, students read the U.S. Constitution and are able to recite its preamble

• In 8th grade, students read the Declaration of Independence and are able to recite its preamble

• In 10th grade, students read and are able to identify the Bill of Rights

Furthermore, schools would be ineligible for federal funding if they teach that the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, or Pledge of allegiance are the products of White Supremacy and racism.

How come learning blind patriotism is required learning, but learning about history as it occurred in this country is being outlawed?

But you know, free speech and all that.

Maybe Hawley can come to the Western side of his state's constituency and referee the no-holds-barred bare-knuckle boxing match between the Liberty Mayor and the racist prick/resident who is appalled that a Jim Crow era, confederate flag image displayed on a carved granite cemetery monument is being discussed for removal by the city council.

I'm sure Hawley would side with the unruly redneck. The redneck is claiming he's defending the graves of some of his distant family, who died long before his own parents were even born.

Confederate soldiers were not American patriots.

Black confederate soldiers were still chattel and hostages, used as cannon fodder by Confederate forces.
