So we don’t want people making the same threads over and over again. Totally understand that. Searching for forum posts is a good way to make sure you’re not doing that.

However what’s the general consensus here when it comes to really old threads? Do you necro a thread from a few years back or do you create a fresh discussion?

I think it makes sense to bring it back to life if only because there will already be some background/valuable (hopefully) posts albeit they are quite old.

It's the same as every other forum on the internet. If you revive an old thread because it's pertinent to your question, people complain about thread necromancy. If you start a new topic, people complain about rehashing the same question over and over again.

The ability to ignore it if they have nothing other than that to contribute seems to be beyond many folks.

I simply ignore aged threads if I want to…if I have something different to contribute…I do.

Concatenation is the answer I think… tack the new onto the old and combine them into a single thread.
