In films........
It's Tom Hanks because he has had some difficult and meaningful roles to play and played them with great feeling without needing to go over the top being spectacular - a natural quality actor.
In TV series it's both John Thaw and Jeremy Brett - both deceased but once again played their roles brilliantly especially two of my favourite characters...... Inspector Morse and Sherlock Holmes.
