OK, so I know it is an unusual passion to have, but I have always enjoyed proofreading and was wondering about the selection process for the Lush proofreaders. Do you have to post a certain number of stories/posts? Do you have to apply? If so, where? Any information will be gladly received, thanks.

You may wish to look here ..

https://www.lushstories.com/forum/yaf_topics3_Writers-Resources.aspx

If you wish to help authors by proofreading their stories then I suggest you create this thread there and I suspect people will bite your hand off.

Lush as a site doesnt provide a proofreading service .. its members like you that help people out on a personal basis.

Hope this helps smile.
I would definitely suggest helping people out here if you are offering. I've heard mods not preaching, but going on to make sure you check your submissions. It should go without saying, but I'm gonna say anyway, I'm not bashing the site, but it does annoy the hell out of me when it gets sent back regardless of the reason. Some reasons have been just a pain in the ass, do this and do that. So I suggest if you are serious, then go ape shit and help people out. Maybe that will help the mods and bring a little joy to their job too.
As a story moderator I can say that it is our job to make sure story and poem submissions meet the standards of this site. We don't expect professional submissions out of everyone, but we do expect certain standards of quality, especially with the grammar. We also expect all submissions to fall within our rule guidelines.

It would be much easier to just click the verify button than to go through a story that must be rejected and post all of the reasons why it is being sent back, but we do not take the easy way out. I am quite sure that our team of volunteers works very hard to be as helpful as possible in making all the suggestions possible to get rejected stories up to acceptable standards. And certainly getting a message back arguing the point is not going to change the outcome.

We are always very appreciative of authors that use editor/proof readers. That makes our jobs much easier and then we may have some time to write our own stories and poems to submit.

I think you should try proof reading people's work, Jeremy. You've posted many stories over the years and therefore have a great understanding of what the moderators expect in terms of punctuation and small detail.

With a little practice I think you'll be great at it. And you never know, it might be a big step towards getting on to the story moderating team.

I'll drink to that.

This is being sarcastic, right?

No, it's not sarcasm.

My point is, is that Jeremy has written and published hundreds of stories over the years and would be well apt for the story moderating requirements.

Not everyone wants to be on the mod team. It suits some people and not others

Why not read some stories instead

Yes, indeed.

Jeremy doesn't want to be on the team; he's far too busy.
I think people are posting on two different things here. I think tiddlywink suggested kornslayer1 help budding authors by proofreading not joining the story moderation team (but I maybe wrong).

Yes, you're quite right, John.

Thank you for pointing that out.

Lush doesn't have proofreaders, per se. There are story moderators, and the process depends on a few factors, first and foremost being demonstrated writing ability. As for the number of stories/posts, that's irrelevant. Just as long as you demonstrate great writing skills. Quantity has nothing to do with quality.

However, lots of people volunteer to proofread others' stories, although they don't do so in any 'official' capacity.

I've moved your thread to the 'Writer's Resources' section so it gets the traction it deserves.

Thanks so much for volunteering!

I do it for a few writers here. I love it! That's probably more to do with me hating writing, lol.

What you should do is to check Ask the Authors thread. There's usually somebody that needs help.
