What is the preferred way to incorporate email messages into stories.
Do you mean simulating an email message as part of your story?

I want to show an email exchange in a story I am writing i.e. I receive an email then respond to it. I saw on a website where there was a To: and From: with email names, then the message was shown. The message intself was indented.

To: Fedora Schaeffer
From: Mugsy Tootsalot

If I go down, I’m taking you with me.

Maybe best just to do a narrative explaining the email received?
I don't think you need to explain it. It's pretty clear. Maybe add a subject line.

Subject: You're in trouble!

Yes! I am not a mod here, but I think that lets the reader know simply and easily it is an email.

Thanks for your help!
Like Verbal said, break it out different from the rest of the text, make it obvious it's an email.
I'm not a Mod but personally I would put email content, letter content or similar in italics. Might depend on context but something should set it apart from the present or set it apart from other dialogue.

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

Thanks for all your input! I think I have it figured out now!
