Help with a name

I wonder if someone can help me with picking a name for a character.

It's a girl, and it needs to start with Q.

Because of that, I decided that the easy way out was to make her of Asian lineage, perhaps Chinese with a transliterated name. But I have no idea what such a name would be, and would prefer something with a bit of authenticity.

That said, I'm not committed to her being Asian. Other suggestions are equally welcome.

Now, this thread could (and likely will), turn into a laundry list of replies, so instead, might I suggest replies be via PM. That way we don't clutter the forum. I'll report back. Promise.

Thanks very much in advance.

So you're posting in the forum, but don't want replies in the forum? Well I'm gonna be a rebel and post a reply, in the form of a link, anyway! Here's hoping that it may help others struggling for names. Search Google (other search engines are available) for the term "baby names" I like www.babynames.com because it gives origin and meaning of the name and is searchable and easy to use. Good luck in your endeavour!
Well, it's not that I didn't want replies, I just was trying to make a suggestion to keep the forum tidy.

I had considered doing an Internet search, but thought I might do better in asking for transliterated Chinese names more specifically than with Google. But that is ordinarily a good way to go.

Ordinarily, yes. I think your best bet may be to ask a Chinese person, if you're still set on a Chinese name. I like Qiao, it means pretty and is pronounced: Ch as in Chin, I as in It and and ow as in cOW. In chinese a lot of words that begin with the letters Qi are pronounced with a Ch sound and ao is pronounced with an OW or AW sound. Hope this helped.

Girl Names : Q

Who knew there were so many girl's names that started with Q?

You know, I think you may have indirectly done it for me.

I saw Quinn in that list. I had always associated that name with either TV producer Quinn Martin or comedian Colin Quinn - both men (in looking it up just now, however, I discovered that Quinn Martin was not his birth name), but then it struck me.... Daria Morgendorfer's sister was named Quinn - it is indeed a girl's name!

So, I think I'll nix the Chinese thing and just go with Quinn.

Thanks!

It makes me think of Doctor Quinn, Medicine Woman.

I actually seriously considered Quinn as a kid's name, for a boy...

I had a girl though, so never used it in the end...
If I had been a girl, my mother was going to name me Priscilla. Thank the lucky stars THAT didn't happen! Can you imagine going through life being called "Prissy"?

Try this, it's easy and works well for American-style names:
