How long does it take to verify a story?

I submitted one Sunday afternoon and it still hasn't been verified.

Any thoughts?
Your story currently resides as #24 in our que. that means our staff of volunteers need to read thru and verify 23 stories before we get to yours. there are, as i write this, 43 in the que total. Also, any gold member stories that are submitted automatically get first preference. to give you an idea, a single story averages between 30-60 minutes to vet - in other words, on a normal day we turn around 24 stories, give or take - it's faster if it's been meticulously edited, something that we can't count on. As things stand, I don't foresee it being turned around until tomorrow at the very soonest, more likely thursday - that's my best guess.

btw, as comparison, the wait at most sites like this is closer to 3-4 weeks between submission and posting. my mods kick ass, but still, we're only human and have lives outside of simply turning over stories.

that all said, welcome to Lush and, believe it or not, i really do like to get stories up as quickly as we can. keep writing and we'll keep posting them. smile

senior story mod Lushstories.

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

Sprite is a record-setter in posting stories--she had one of mine up within 5 minutes of submission.

That said, please remember that all of the moderators and story verifiers are volunteers--not paid staff. They're donating their available time to Lush, and honestly, they do an extremely good job at what is a very difficult job--reading the story, verifying that it is not plagiarised, checking for grammar/spelling/formatting mistakes, etc. If you submitted a story on Sunday, well, like Sprite said, it's sitting in queue. Stories can languish for days, especially if it's a long one or if you just happened to submit it when there were quite a lot of other pieces in queue.

The only real way to speed up verification of your story is to become a paying member of the site, supporting financially what is by far the best literary erotica site on the Internet. I'm not sure if Bronze and Silver members' stories (or poems) are automatically put at the head of the queue, but I do know that Gold members' stories (or poems) are prioritized in the queue.

The other significant bonus to being a Gold member (again, this may be true for Bronze and Silver members as well) is that you no longer have advertisements up on your screen. This was the big one for me (there are lots of other benefits to being a Gold member as well), because the ads are rather obnoxious. A necessary evil--servers don't pay for themselves--but obnoxious nonetheless.

Anyway, welcome to Lush, and remember that patience is a virtue.

Thank you both for responding.

only gold.

a note - i've been doing this for 4+ years and, although i rarely comment on stories, i have read most of the authors here or will have at some point in time. People like Hera, whose work i know well and is a gold member, really do get fast tracked - i know what to look for in her stories and what not to worry about and am able to move through them quickly. new authors, or authors that i know repeatedly get sent back for typos, etc, i have to pick through, which is much more time consuming.

as she said, goldies get moved through quickly. goldies who proof read and edit and have a good rep as a clean writer get lightning jobs if i'm on the clock - simple as that.

That time line is really contingent on the site and if they are running a story comp or not. I once had a good story on another site take a month to post because comp entries were taking priority.

I'd rather see a few days wait to have a real human being read my story than have a bot pass it with stupid errors that will cost me votes. I'm super grateful as to how fast and accurately the Mods here verify stories.
