Pumping your old stories

I was looking down my stories list and noticed that one of my older stories that is rather a favorite of mine is very low in views compared to the others in spite of positive comments and a good score. It takes place at Christmas which maybe limits its appeal to some extent but I'm trying to think of ways I could get it some more attention. One option is to do as I have long intended and do a sequel but my writing time is pretty limited right now and if I write anything, I want to tackle my idea for the new comp.

Any authors who have tried to "resurrect" old stories care to chime in with ideas?
You could add that older story to your Forum signature for awhile. Also Tweet it and promote it on Facebook. A sequel might work, if it is also works well as a stand alone story. You could then link back to your older story.
I don't have a lot of followers on Twitter and my FB is off-limits to Lush stuff (my family don't know I write erotica for one thing). I was going to do the sig update, though. The sequel would definitely be standalone, just revisiting the characters on a different holiday a few years later type of thing.
Obviously, you need a personal website to do it, but I created a specific search for holiday stories on mine, and I get a jump on those stories every time the appropriate season comes around. It's not huge, but enough to make the coding worthwhile.

No matter what, some type of connected new story is the best way to do it. A sequel, another chapter, a spin-off, or something. Just link to the story you want to highlight with the drop-down at the bottom of the submission form. If necessary, add an ending note saying how that story is connected to the one you're linking.

Good Will ---|--- Three Alarm <= Both almost famous, give them a read and get them one step closer!

seeker4,
When I was here before, I wrote a two chapter bondage/interracial story called Tightly Thai'd. It did pretty good, but it started falling off after a bit. Then I wrote a follow up story which was a sequel to it called Lawan Revisited. That story literally doubled the viewing of the first two.

A stand-alone sequel is undoubtedly the best way to increase your readership when it is linked to the original story. Adding a link in your sig line is good, as is bringing in Outsiders to your stories. But sequel, sequel, sequel! It is time well invested - believe me!
I know some of my "older" stories are only about a year and a half old on this site, but I'm always surprised when I get a PM from someone who read one. Often, I get readers of my older works because they like something I wrote recently. They liked one story and decide to check out my other work. If it's in a category they like (MILF, Mature, Love Story's, etc) then they will read it. I've only once put a story in my signature and it's my current piece, "Neve & the Sandman" that I co-wrote with adagio. I did that so he'd get recognized for his part.

But putting links to your older stories in the signature line of your form posts isn't a horrid idea. It's really pretty smart.

Nope. No resurrections unless I'm desperately in the mood to work on the piece again - which I'm usually not.

I use scores, comments, and views as a way to keep track of what story concepts are actually popular and which ones aren't. When I take short stories and turn them into longer works I want to incorporate elements people appreciate.

Ergo: I'm not going to bother much with erotic poetry save for when I'm just really in the mood for it.

Nor am I going to pursue any erotica stories that involve ghosts right now - that was the least popular thing I've written.
I give them new life by putting them in my sig.

It works pretty good.

I know this sounds a bit dense, and that there's likely an obvious answer somewhere, but how does one go about linking a stand-alone sequel back to an older story?

There is a box for linking at the bottom under your story when you got to EDIT. In the red bar at the top, go to the 'Wheel' between the house and question mark and scroll down to My Stories, then to your story you want linked and click EDIT. Scroll down and you'll find the link story box. Once you click in that you can scroll through a list of your stories until you get to the one you desire and choose that one.

Let me know if you have any problem finding it and I'll help you further.
I have a story that isn't getting as much attention as my others. I was thinking of rewriting the first paragraph to hook the readers in, but I like how it starts so I've decided to go down a different route.

Audio versions seem to increase the number of reads on my stories, so I'm in the process of creating an audio version to go with it.

All the ideas others have mentioned should help as well.
