Of the four books he talks about, I know the LeGuin and the King. Don't really even know the other two authors. I should give LeGuin's a try. She's arguably one of the best writers of the latter half of the 20th century and probably one of the top ten or so in sf and fantasy.
There's an element of heat in this story.

Learned more about writing here than I did in a semester of an MFA program (before I switched to a more practical degree). MFA is good for shredding your ego. That's about it.
