The amount of time for story approval...

As story moderators we get a lot of questions about the length of time it takes to get your stories verified. We at Lush are known for faster approval time over nearly all competitor sites, many of which take several weeks to approve or disapprove story submissions.

All story verifiers here on Lushstories are members like yourselves. We are just volunteers who are dedicated to the site. The story verification queue currently gets more submissions than ever before, so sometimes it will take several days before we can get to your story. Please start planning for that when you submit. Complaining will not help. Why should we put your story before other members who submitted before you?

There is one way that YOU can speed up the approval time of your story. That is to purchase a Gold Membership. The paid memberships seriously help keep this site afloat and they do get perks. That's what that is about. Gold Members story submissions go to the top of the queue. Members willing to help the site out financially naturally should get some perks.

So if quick story approval time is very important to you, you should consider purchasing a Gold Membership. If not, your story will be approved in the order it was submitted. Complaining will NOT change that.
Of course Buz is right. I wanted to add a couple of points. The best way to ensure that your story is approved and posted by the moderator reviewing it is to edit carefully and comply with site guidelines. The fewer spelling, grammar, and formatting errors in your story, the more likely it will be approved. Stories can be delayed because they are sent back to writers to make corrections that are beyond the amount of tinkering that moderators will do for you.

As well, make sure your story meets the minimum but does not exceed the maximum word count for a single story. If your story is part of a series, remember that only one story can be submitted daily. You should not submit any part until the previous part has been approved and posted to maintain the story sequence.

I wrote a cheat sheet for story submission some time ago when I was a story moderator. It can be seen here:

https://www.lushstories.com/forum/yaf_postst26962_Advice-before-submitting-a-story.aspx

Finally, as Buz mentioned, there are dozens of stories submitted each day. The hours of time to review them is given by volunteers. A thank you when you receive your approval note is appreciated by those who do the work.
hi, my name is rachel and i'm a story mod. i do it because i believe in this site. i do it because i see inexperienced writers grow into artists (hi Poppet!). i do it because everyone should have a place to have their voice heard, even if it's "only smut". it's not smut. it's erotica, it's people's dreams, their fantasies, their hard work, their imagination, and their talent. sometimes yeah, it takes us too long to get your story out. but, in the end, if you put in the work, it goes up on the front page. we do our best. we juggle careers, families, our own writing, our own time, in order to make it happen. sure, i know the excitement of hitting submit, the torment of waiting, the thrill of seeing your story on the front page. we do our best to make it happen, because we know that thrill too.

are we perfect? no. do we strive to be? yes. that's all i can offer - doing my best, our best, to give you a forum for doing what you love. it's a small crew of dedicated volunteers and we try to treat all our authors with care - that means taking extra time for some. i like to think that we help people achieve their ambitions.

to everyone out there who has ever thanked a mod, and that's most of you, i/we sincerely appreciate it. it's a nice feeling. if you have legitimate complaints, my PM box is not hard to locate, and i will address them, ask anyone who has every sent me a query - i put those at the top of my to-do list when i sign in. that means skipping some of the personal stuff, some of the fun stuff, some of the non-worky stuff. i do that because i want to make your lush experience the best i can. simple as that. just remember, we're human beings, we have feelings, we have bad days, we deal with the same issues that you do - so when you send those queries to me, or any other mod, try to be nice, 'kay? smile

Eloquently put! I alway try (although I'm sure I must have forgotten once ore twice.) to say thank you, a in the little "notes to the mods" box. It it REALLY IS so exciting to put a story out. I've learned a lot LISTENING to the wisdom they share, and it really has helped me grow as a writer, improving my skills.
So, I don't care who you are...try and take some advice. Nobody (imho) is trying to put anyone down.
P.s. The best advice I've been given, is don't over post. Put a week or more (preferably more) between stories and/or poems. If we saturate the site with something daily, no one will take us seriously, and eventually stop reading (thank you, Poppet!).
Anyway...just my humble opinion.

I have three famous stories, 2 recommended reads and have come in the top ten in two competitions~ Come in and make yourself at home.

btw, we also appreciate nekkid photos. just saying... ;)

Just a reminder that it is generally taking several days right now for story verification. Please be patient as we are working diligently to get them all processed.
I submitted my story over a week ago and I've still not heard anything.

I've only just joined the site, so that might be normal for all I know. It's just, I've been in contact with a several other members, and they told me the normal time for publishing is 2-3 days.

Don't worry. It's in there!! It's fairly near the top, so shouldn't be too long. Things slow down when there's a competition on, as we get so many extra stories. X

Okay. Thanks for your reply.

Someone else did mention that there's a high volume of story submissions at the moment due to the competition. Everybody loves a competition. I'd enter it myself if I thought my writing was up to it. But, unfortunately, it's not.

The number of new story submissions has really increased recently. It will most likely take longer than it has in the past to get to your story.

Of course, the submission rate might slow before long and your stories will be verified quicker. In the meantime, please be patient. We are working diligently.

No worries. And I say go for it re the comp!! You never know unless you try, lol. They're actually a really good way of getting your work read. A lot of our members go out of their way to read comp stories and support the contestants.

They run every few months anyway, so plenty of future opportunities if you want to scope the place out first xx

Yeah, I'll probably just get my bearings first, get a feel for things before I go for any competitions. Most of my stories are about my wife getting screwed by other blokes, so I write in a specific genre more often than not.
I've been waiting nearly 9 days now for my story to be published.

Other sites take between 2-3 days.

Your story is there and out of a current queue of 80+ stories it's now very near the top. Hopefully it wont be too much longer.

I feel like the site should just introduce ratings, like on other free writing publication websites. That way users can filter content they don’t wish to see in the search engine and moderators won’t be necessary to view every submission. Like look to A03, Archive of Our Own, for reference. The reader simply clicks which level of explicitness they’re trying to read (or avoid) and the search engine filters the work available on the site 🙌 something to consider

It appears you may not be aware of what moderators actually do, and you may have been misled by your own interpretation of the word. Those of us who submit our efforts are hugely grateful to our heroes, the mods, who ensure stories meet guidelines that are vital to avoid pieces that do not meet the site rules appearing.

As a contributor, I know that someone is giving up their time to help me. That's a human element, which will always be more valuable to me than any tech. 'Levels of explicitness' is, of course, subjective to a degree, and I suspect most readers can use tags to help them decide if a story will be for them.

Moderators do far more than tick an imaginary 'pass' or 'fail' box, and it may be worthwhile for you to submit something. That would explain everything in real terms far better than I could in a reply to a post.

If we raised the minimum word count north of 2500 and really focused on quality rather than whether a story meets the site's ToS, I bet we could reduce the overall number of submissions and therefore publication wait times. We could also do it if authors wouldn't flood the queue with push-button AI slop, actually read and followed the ToS and stopped publishing novel length stories 500 words at time, but that's probably too much to expect.

Don't believe everything that you read.

If people prefer to read shorter pieces, any rise in the minimum word count would deny them the opportunity to do something they enjoy. Yes, the people who read. They have as much of a right to a voice as anyone. 'Focusing on quality' comes across as rather elitist and subjective. If you think only people who write should read what you've written, you're perfectly entitled to hold that opinion, but ask readers what length of pieces they prefer to read, and they may not give an answer that would make a 2500-word minimum viable.

I believe I understand just fine what moderators do, I just don't share your appreciation for an element that makes the wait-time take so long. Especially in the name of censorship. I'm just used to a more free-range writing experience. I suppose the platforms I've used in the past are just more lenient with their user-base's creative freedom. They offer conveniences of warning labels that authors can pin to their work that will tip-off the search engines and filter out content people might find unpleasant while the people who do enjoy that kind of content can access it freely. Being an adult website I'm just a little taken aback by the rigorous vetting process that simultaneously takes a really long time. We just value different things from our platforms....sucks for me, though, both the free-range publication sites im referencing are for fanfictions, so, I'm having trouble finding a place I like to post my original erotica. This isn't feeling like home already haha

It may come to feel more like home if you try to assimilate into your new environment, rather than wanting to dictate how it operates. Would you do that in a new country you had settled in? I hope not. 'Lenient' implies you wish to push boundaries, rather than operate within those in place, which is rather disrespectful towards those who are here exactly because of the safeguards in place. The reason things take time is that they are done properly. If that doesn't matter to you, they are your values; just don't expect well-established sites to fall over to accommodate those that don't align with theirs. It's up to you to amend how you do things, not everyone else.

A bit dramatic don’t u think? I wasn’t dictating anything, It was simply a suggestion, expressed under a tread voicing chagrin about the very thing I was suggesting a solution to. And comparing someone suggesting something on a website is very different than disrespecting a culture in a new country..like u can take it down a notch …Again this is a site for erotica and adults, the sites I’ve been talking about are for teenagers 😂 so the strict vetting process here just comes off as erroneous to me. so I’m glad u enjoy all the rules and censorship here but I think they’re gratuitous. And don’t worry I won’t be posting here. I already don’t like the rules and now this interaction has solidified that this is not the place for me. You’ve really opened my eyes to the kind of environment this site offers, and it’s definitely too regimented and unwelcoming 👍

Forget it. They’ve deleted their profile

Btw, the elements subjected to 'gratuitous censhorip' were drugging, non-con and death.

So yeah, proudly regimented and unwelcoming of such content.

So you are in favor of standards for publication... How "elitist."

Don't believe everything that you read.

No, I'm in favour of it, I'm English.
