I am thinking of submitting a story. If I do not write one in one session, will the work I have done be saved on the submissions page? How do I ensure that work I have done does not get lost or deleted?
Dan.
In the submissions window if you click 'continue' there is an option to save without submitting. It will be saved as a draft.
Hello Dan

I am glad Laura was able to answer your question. If I may, I’d like to offer a few suggestions on a slightly different aspect to your question, and that is how you can promote your story after it has been approved. There are so many stories submitted to the site, that many times a story will remain on the front page for only a few hours. Since you are new here, and after your tale is replaced by more recent submissions, nobody will know about you or that you have written something. As soon as possible, replace that default red and white avatar with something you like and fill out your biography page. Many people, including myself, like to know a little about an author before we invest time in reading their story. That may sound crazy, but by having a little information about the writer, helps to make the story more personal and interesting.

Another thing you can do, and I think this may help as much as anything, is to become an active participant in as many forums as you can. Another suggestion, if you enjoy such things, is to become active in some of the chat rooms. After your story is published, you can add a signature line as well as a link to your story. You will see that I have one at the end of this post.

Anything you can do to become liked and well known, will be a benefit. It’s called advertising, and advertising does pay off. WELCOME to the site and good luck.
If you're feeling bored during this Covid-19 epidemic I’d like to suggest
you take a peek at a story I collaborated with SueBrasil, a brilliant author.
It's about a mistake in judgment a lady makes concerning a friend, based
on the hurtful words of someone that only thinks of himself. Will that
conniving person succeed in ruining a beautiful friendship, or will she see
through his lies? It's gradually creeping up towards the 30,000 mark
and we’d love any votes or hearing whatever comments you may wish
to make. It is listed in my profile under ‘FAVOURITES’ as Apologize.

Another possibility is to write the story in a word processing program. I use Microsoft Word. When it is complete. I copy it and paste it into the submission page. I then add the title, subtitle and tags as well as any picture I might want to head the story.

I prefer doing it this way, then pasting into the submissions window. The submissions window really is not a great writing environment. I use mainly Word but have played with using Google Docs as well since I store my work on Google Drive regardless.

I avoid using Google Docs as it seems to cause formatting problems when you paste in the submissions page.

I do this as well. I tend to save everything on a flash drive. That way no one else can stumble upon my work. I started doing that when my kids were younger. My son was nosy as a teenager. Lol!

Milik and I use pages. Works really well and can share a story if working together.

Copies and paste well in the submission..

I paste as plain text and it doesn't seem to be a problem. I mostly still use Word at any rate, but once my wife and I both retire and don't have our employers paying for our Office subs, I will probably switch to Docs or maybe one of the open source ones like LibreOffice or OpenOffice.
I use the submission form from the getgo, but I back it up periodically as plain text to my second favourite text editor, Kate. My favourite is NoteTab Pro, but it's only available for Windoze. I recommend LibreOffice over OpenOffice, although I don't use it much. My husband does, though.

Looks like we're in for a nasty spell of wether.

The last time I tried them both, one could be installed in pieces (i.e. I could install just the word processor) while the other made you install the whole kit'n kaboodle, or at least I couldn't find how to install it piecemeal. Forget which was which now. From a word processing standpoint, though, I found they seemed about the same.

My main problem with Word as it exists now is that paying a fairly hefty monthly sub for a product that I only use about 10% of seems like a fucking waste. As a word processor, it's no better or worse than others, but it's bloated with a lot of stuff I wouldn't use even at work. All I need for writing is a solid, stable typing platform with a spelling and grammar checker.

It really doesn't matter if you install the whole suite with either. They do not take up a lot of room and they don't do horrible things to your registry. MS Office, on the other hand, was huge and installed all sorts of shite if you weren't careful, like Outlook. It used to take me longer to pick what I did or did not want than it took to do the actual install from floppies.

My next-door neighbour used to have a kitten Kaboodle.
